Relationship between polycystic ovary syndrome and high periostin level.
There is growing evidence suggesting a relationship between periostin levels, inflammation, and ovarian dysfunction. In this prospective case-control study, we aimed to investigate serum periostin levels and their relationship with metabolic parameters in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome. ⋯ Our study revealed a significant elevation in periostin levels among polycystic ovary syndrome patients compared with controls. These findings suggest that periostin could serve as a potential marker for assessing disease severity in polycystic ovary syndrome patients.

Updated threshold, renewed problems: should the diagnostic criteria of polycythemia vera be reconsidered? A retrospective cross-sectional cohort study.
This aim of this study was to evaluate hemoglobin and hematocrit values of polycythemia vera and secondary polycythemia patients with updated World Health Organization thresholds. In addition, by determining our own threshold values, we aimed to demonstrate the necessity of bone marrow biopsy and genetic analysis to be used for further diagnosis in patients with high-normal hematocrit and hemoglobin values. ⋯ Our study demonstrated that modified World Health Organization criteria might lead to unnecessary additional tests for polycythemia vera patients with high-normal hemoglobin and hematocrit values.

This study was conducted to determine the relationship between bone mineral density, vitamin D level, and sleep quality in female patients with osteoporosis. ⋯ There was no association between the vitamin D level, bone mineral density, and sleep quality, but the duration of osteoporosis was negatively associated with sleep quality. Accordingly, it may be recommended to provide education and counseling to postmenopausal women diagnosed with osteoporosis on issues such as sunbathing, vitamin D and calcium preparation intake, weight control, and non-pharmacological treatment approaches by making necessary individual-specific plans to improve sleep quality.
