Prevalence of low-body cell mass evaluated by bioelectrical impedance vector analysis related to aging.
The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of low-body cell mass by sex and age in a community-dwelling population. ⋯ The prevalence of low body cell mass, evaluated by bioelectrical impedance vectorial analysis, increased with age. RXc Z-score analysis could be a useful tool to evaluate nutritional status and changes in hydration in community-dwelling populations.

Factors of mortality in patients with cardiac implantable electronic device: 5-year experience.
The use of cardiac implantable electronic devices has increased in recent years. It has also brought some issues. Among these, the complications of cardiac implantable electronic devices infection and pocket hematoma are difficult to manage. It can be fatal with the contribution of patient-related risk factors. In this study, we aimed to find mortality rates in patients who developed cardiac implantable electronic devices infection and pocket hematoma over 5 years. We also investigated the risk factors affecting mortality in patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices. ⋯ No correlation was observed between cardiac implantable electronic devices infection and mortality, whereas pocket hematoma was associated with mortality. Furthermore, renal failure was the cause of the highest mortality rate in patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices.

Serologic screening for viral infections among blood donors: a study in a blood bank in southern Brazil.
Routine screening for viral infections at blood donation is important to avoid transfusion-transmitted infections. It also offers an opportunity to detect an asymptomatic infection. ⋯ A significant reduction in discarded blood bags due to viral serology was observed when the period of 2013-2017 was compared to 2018-2022 on this blood bank; the highest reduction was observed in HIV serology and the lowest in HBc serology, which became more common in women in the second period. High rates of donor fidelity were observed during the period studied.

Vaginal hysterectomy and transvaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery for uterosacral ligament suspension for pelvic organ prolapse: 53 cases of single-surgeon experience.
The objective of this study was to describe the single-surgeon experience on transvaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery for uterosacral ligament suspension in patients with severe prolapse who had concomitant vaginal hysterectomy. ⋯ Transvaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery uterosacral ligament suspension is a feasible technique to treat severe pelvic organ prolapse with promising results for short-term efficacy and safety in patients who had concomitant vaginal hysterectomy. Longer follow-up periods are needed to evaluate the long-term efficacy profile of transvaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery for uterosacral ligament suspension.

Thyroid surgery in children: a single-center experience of 20 years.
Thyroidectomy is a relatively uncommon procedure in pediatric patients. We aimed to review our 20-year experience of thyroid surgery. ⋯ Pediatric thyroidectomies are performed on a heterogeneous group of pediatric patients due to a diverse group of pathologies. A multidisciplinary approach is required for proper initial management and surgical strategy with decreased complication rate and event-free survival of these patients in experienced tertiary centers.
