Ultrasonography, macroscopy, and frozen section: whıch is better for predicting deep myometrial invasıon in endometrial cancer?
The aim of this study was to compare the power of preoperative transvaginal ultrasonography, intraoperative macroscopic examination, and frozen section for predicting deep myometrial invasion in endometrial cancer. ⋯ Transvaginal ultrasonography and intraoperative frozen section were found to have similar sensitivity and specificity for predicting deep myometrial invasion. Preoperative transvaginal ultrasonography appears as an efficient approach for predicting endometrial cancers with deep myometrial invasion.

Revisiting femoral cartilage thickness in cases with Hashimoto's thyroiditis in thyroidology: a single institute experience.
Hashimoto's thyroiditis, also known as chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis or autoimmune thyroiditis, is a considerable part of the spectrum of chronic autoimmune thyroid gland disorders which is pathologically associated with various degrees of lymphocytic infiltration. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate whether cartilage thickness is affected in patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis or not in thyroidology. ⋯ As a consequence, no obvious connection between autoimmune markers and cartilage thickness in patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis was recognized. Although the diverse manifestation of Hashimoto's thyroiditis could be observed, it seems to be no liaison between thyroid autoimmunity and cartilage thickness.

En bloc enucleation of the prostate with early apical release using a high-power (200 W) thulium device: studying a learning curve.
The aim of this study was to reveal the learning curve of early apical release en bloc laser prostatectomy using a high-power thulium (200 W) laser device. ⋯ Completing 40 first cases would be sufficient for managing the learning curve for early apical release en bloc thulium laser enucleation of the prostate.

The evaluation of superoxide dismutase 1 gene insertion/deletion variant in athletes.
Regular exercise benefits health by increasing the body's antioxidant defenses. However, excessive exercise can produce excessive reactive oxygen species, which can lead to oxidative stress. Superoxide dismutase is the primary enzyme involved in the elimination of reactive oxygen species. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the SOD1 gene insertion/deletion variant and elite athletes. ⋯ As far as we know, this is the first study to evaluate the SOD1 insertion/deletion variant in athletes in Turkey. Our results showed that the SOD1 I allele was more common in female athletes, but not in male athletes.

While the literature contains several studies on the frailty assessed during hospitalization and/or outpatient settings and nursing homes, few studies have assessed frailty in community-dwelling older adults. We investigated the prevalence of frailty and associated factors among older adults in a sample of community-dwelling older adults. ⋯ The present study established the prevalence of frailty in a large district in the largest metropolis in the country through a valid screening method. Our results suggest that clinicians should consider frailty evaluation in patients with multiple drug usage, cognitive impairment, and falls.
