An optimal epidural catheter placement site for post-cesarean section analgesia with double-space technique combined spinal-epidural anesthesia: a retrospective study.
Epidural anesthesia affects lower extremities, which often prevents early mobilization postoperatively. The incidence of numbness and motor weakness in the lower extremities with respect to epidural catheter placement site in cesarean section (CS) is uncertain. We aimed to investigate the effect of catheter placement site on postoperative lower extremities numbness and motor weakness in patients who received combined spinal-epidural anesthesia (CSEA) for CS including analgesic effects and optimal epidural placement site in CS. ⋯ In CS, epidural catheter placement at T10-11 or T11-12 interspace is expected to reduce effect on the lower extremities and improve quality of postoperative analgesia.

Intraoperative responses of motor evoked potentials to the novel intravenous anesthetic remimazolam during spine surgery: a report of two cases.
Remimazolam is a novel short-acting benzodiazepine characterized by metabolism independent from organ function. We report intraoperative MEP responses of two patients who underwent spine surgery under general anesthesia using remimazolam. ⋯ General anesthesia using remimazolam and remifentanil can be a valuable alternative for spine surgery with MEP monitoring by EEG to assess the optimal dose.

Pericardial disease as a rare complication of pediatric appendicitis: a systematic literature search.
Classic symptoms of acute appendicitis are well known but are uncommon and often misinterpreted in pediatric patients, potentially delaying diagnosis and resulting in rare sequelae. ⋯ Awareness of this uncommon relationship may have prognostic value as this may facilitate appropriate management of pericardial effusions, tamponade, and/or appendicitis.

An experience of subglottic airway foreign body removal in a patient under tracheal intubation: a case report.
Removal of an airway foreign body is challenging to anesthesiologists. We report successful removal of an extremely rare foreign body between a tracheal tube and the trachea in patients under tracheal intubation. ⋯ We reported the successful removal of a foreign body in the subglottic airway of a patient under tracheal intubation.

Anesthesia management in a patient with very long-chain acyl-Coenzyme A dehydrogenase deficiency.
In a patient with very long-chain acyl-Coenzyme A dehydrogenase (VLCAD) deficiency, metabolism of fatty acids is impaired and a supply of alternative energy is limited when glucose level is insufficient on starvation. ⋯ Glucose was administered to avoid perioperative hypoglycemia. Body temperature was controlled to avoid shivering, which would otherwise increase skeletal muscle energy needs. Blood creatine kinase did not increase, and myoglobinuria was not detected; thus, rhabdomyolysis was unlikely to develop.
