Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) are hematological diseases predominantly occurring in older patients. Although allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) remains the curative therapy for refractory AML or high-risk MDS, old age is often a hurdle to the procedure. We conducted a retrospective study to analyze the prognostic factors predicting outcomes of older patients undergoing allo-HSCT for acute leukemia and MDS. ⋯ This cohort study suggests that an EBMT risk score >3 and grade III-IV aGVHD predict poor outcomes, and careful management of GVHD may allow better survival for older patients undergoing allo-HSCT.

We investigated the performance of glaucoma assessment using RS-3000 spectral domain optical coherence tomography with a long axial length (AL) normative database versus Cirrus HD-OCT in eyes with high myopia. ⋯ For eyes with long AL, both OCT devices are comparable in the ability of discriminating glaucoma from non-glaucoma in terms of cpRNFL parameters, while the macular GCC parameters of RS-3000 were less likely to over-diagnose glaucoma in highly myopic eyes.

Pulmonary embolism (PE) is frequently associated with cancer. This study aimed to assess patients with acute PE and identify diagnostic predictors of new cancer after 1 year of follow-up. ⋯ This study suggests that the CK-MB level is associated with future malignancy in patients with PE. Patients with cancer-related PE had a worse 30-day survival rate.
