A number of anesthetics have protective effect against ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury, including desflurane. But the function and molecular mechanism of desflurane in liver I/R injury have not been fully understood. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of desflurane on liver I/R injury and further investigated the molecular mechanisms involving in miR-135b-5p. ⋯ Desflurane attenuated liver I/R injury through regulating miR-135b-5p, and JAK2 was the target gene of mIR-135b-5p. These findings provide references for further development of therapeutic strategies in liver injury.

Atherosclerosis (AS) is a multifactorial chronic disease, and vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) play important roles in the pathology of AS. Micro-RNAs regulate multiple cellular biological processes. This study aimed to investigate the clinical value of miR-183-5p in AS patients and further explored the effects of miR-183-5p on the proliferation and migration of VSMCs. ⋯ MiR-183-5p is highly expressed in AS patients, which promotes the proliferation and migration of VSMCs. MiR-183-5p may be a key molecular in the diagnosis and treatment of AS in the future.

To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of the XEN45 Gel Stent in East Asian patients with primary open angle glaucoma (POAG). ⋯ The XEN45 Gel Stent effectively reduced the IOP values and number of glaucoma medications in East Asian patients with POAG. No major complications were observed, but almost half of the eyes in the study required intervention for wound healing modification. Postoperative IOP at month 1 was a predictor of surgical success at 12 months after surgery.

Huntington's disease (HD) is an inherited disease characterized by both mental and motor dysfunctions. Our previous studies showed that HD mice demonstrate a diminished pain response. However, few studies have focused on the relationship between HD and morphine analgesia. The purpose of this study is to investigate and compare the analgesic effects of morphine in HD and wild-type (WT) mice. ⋯ Our data demonstrate better morphine analgesic and less pain-related cytokine responses at the spinal cord level for HD mice. Further studies are needed to determine the morphine analgesia mechanism in HD.

Although previous studies have shown connections between pain and worse cancer outcomes, few clinical studies have evaluated their direct association, and the current study aimed to investigate the potential association between acute pain trajectories and postoperative outcomes after liver cancer surgery. ⋯ Acute pain trajectories were associated with LOS but not cancer recurrence and survival after liver cancer surgery. Group-based trajectory analysis provided a promising approach for investigating the complex relationships between variations in postoperative pain over time and clinical outcomes.
