Lung cancer contributes to high cancer mortality worldwide with 80% of total cases diagnosed as non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase (TK) domain serves as a druggable target in NSCLC patients with exon 19 deletion and L858R mutation. However, patients eventually succumbed to resistance to first- and second-generation EGFR-TK inhibitors through activation of T790M mutation. Third-generation EGFR-TKI, Osimertinib exhibits high efficacy in patients with exon 19 deletion/L858R/T790M mutation but they experienced acquired resistance thereafter. Available treatment options in NSCLC patients remains a challenge due to unknown molecular heterogeneity responsible for acquired resistance to EGFR-TKI. In this study, we aim to generate Osimertinib-resistant (OR) cells from H1975 carrying L858R/T790M double mutation which can be used as a model to elucidate mechanism of resistance. ⋯ We generated OR cell lines in-vitro as evidenced by increased drug resistance potential, increased mesenchymal features, and enhanced autophagy activity. Development of Osimertinib resistance cells may serve as in-vitro model facilitating discovery of molecular aberration present during acquired mechanism of resistance.

Association between gastrointestinal symptoms and depression among older adults in Taiwan: A cross-sectional study.
Older adults with depression more frequently experience somatic and gastrointestinal (GI) problems compared with people without depression and younger adults with depression. However, whether GI symptoms are predictive of elevated rates of depression among older adults is unclear. ⋯ We provide evidence that GI symptoms are associated with depressive symptoms among patients with LLD. Older people with more specific GI symptoms, such as reflux, abdominal pain, and dyspepsia, are potentially at greater risk of having LLD.

Angioplasty and stenting for symptomatic stenosis of the left subclavian artery complicated with aortic dissection.
Aortic dissection is a rare but severe complication of percutaneous transluminal angioplasty and stenting (PTAS) for stenosis of the subclavian artery (SA). This retrospective study was designed to evaluate the risk factors and outcomes of patients with severe stenosis of the SA who underwent PTAS complicated by aortic dissection. ⋯ Aortic dissection occurred in patients who underwent PTAS for severe stenosis of the left SA, mainly with balloon-expandable stents. We suggest using self-expandable stents and angioplasty with an undersized balloon during PTAS for severe stenosis of the left proximal SA to prevent aortic dissection.

Comparison of the iCare, Tono-Pen, non-contact airpuff, and Goldmann applanation tonometers in eyes with corneal edema after penetrating keratoplasty.
To compare the utility of the iCare, Tono-Pen, and non-contact airpuff (NCT) tonometers with the Goldmann applanation tonometer (GAT) for measuring intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with corneal edema after penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) and to assess the effects of central corneal thickness (CCT) and corneal curvature (CC) on IOP measurements. ⋯ In the PKP group, the NCT and Tono-Pen significantly overestimated IOP, whereas the iCare IOP readings were similar to those obtained using the GAT. Poor agreement was noted between the NCT and GAT as well as between the Tono-Pen and GAT, but the iCare showed clinically acceptable agreement with GAT. In normal corneas, the GAT, NCT, and iCare were affected by CCT and CC. The iCare tonometer was less affected by corneal edema than were the NCT and the Tono-Pen. The iCare appears to be a useful device for IOP measurement in eyes with corneal edema after PKP.

Dexamethasone (DEX) implant has been shown to improve visual and anatomic function in patients with diabetic macular edema (DME). The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of DEX implant between refractory and naive eyes with DME. ⋯ To our knowledge, this was the first study comparing DEX implant between treatment-naive and refractory Asian patients with DME. Intravitreal DEX implant can effectively treat refractory and treatment-naive patients with DME. In addition, superior visual outcomes were observed in the naive group comparing to the refractory group following DEX implant treatment in Taiwanese pseudophakic eyes with DME.
