To compare the efficacy and safety of combination therapy with sorafenib and drug-eluting bead transarterial chemoembolization (DEB-TACE) in advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with or without hepatic arteriovenous shunt (HAVS). ⋯ For advanced HCC, combination therapy had equal efficacy and safety in patients with HAVS compared to those without HAVS, indicating that DEB-TACE is an optional and effective treatment in these patients.

The acute onset of insomnia following surgical operations has long been neglected, and long-term outcomes are not clear. Our aims were (1) to evaluate the risk of postoperative insomnia, (2) to identify which surgeries are related, and (3) to follow patients with postoperative insomnia for the development of major mental and physical disorders. ⋯ Surgery is associated with subsequent insomnia, which has a shorter duration and a faster remission than non-postoperative insomnia. Our data provide a reference for postoperative care, and warrant future studies.

Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is a major health problem affecting approximately 50% of the female population over 45 years of age. We evaluated the therapeutic effects of a home-based non-invasive wireless sensor pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) device with assisted Kegel exercise for SUI. ⋯ The data demonstrated that 3 months of Kegel exercise assisted with a home-based PFMT device improved the number and severity of episodes, PVR, and quality of life in patients with SUI, suggesting that this device might serve as an alternative non-invasive therapy for mild and moderate SUI.

We designed a patella cryo-free method to protect patella from cryoinjury during recycled frozen bone-prosthesis-composite reconstruction for proximal tibial malignancy. This study aimed to use animal model to ensure safety and efficacy of this method and reported our clinical outcomes. ⋯ Patellar cryo-free technique could protect patella from cryoinjury during freezing and therefore preserve more extensor functions for patients with proximal tibial malignant bone tumors.

There are limited real-world data to guide the sequencing of targeted therapies in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC). The objective of this study was to characterize real-world treatment patterns (primarily second line [2L]) after prior vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) targeted therapy in an unselected mRCC population from Taiwan between 2013 and 2017. Treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs) and their management were also evaluated (NCT03633579). ⋯ Real-world management of patients with mRCC in Taiwan broadly aligned with clinical guidelines and national reimbursement policy at the time of the study. These findings may be a useful reference for assessing the implications of evolving mRCC management approaches in Taiwan.
