The results of the recent Amsterdam Investigator-Initiated Absorb Strategy All-Comers trial showed that the predilatation, sizing, and postdilatation (PSP) technique did not lower the long-term rates of scaffold thrombosis and adverse events. We evaluated the impact of aggressive PSP bioresorbable vascular scaffold (BRS) implantation on the short- and long-term clinical outcomes. ⋯ Lesion preparation by aggressive PSP in BRS implantation was associated with better long-term clinical outcomes.

Two antifibrotic medications, pirfenidone and nintedanib, have been approved as treatments for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF)-a life-threatening interstitial lung disease. However, there are insufficient current data regarding clinical predictors of survival for patients with IPF in the era of antifibrotics. ⋯ Chest tightness, finger clubbing, acute exacerbation after medication, and decreased %FVC were clinical factors associated with mortality in patients with IPF, although without statistical significance. A scoring system including these factors can be used to predict all-cause mortality in patients with IPF. The mere intake of antifibrotic medications was not a significant mortality predictor in this study. This might be owed to the retrospective nature of the study, where many patients started the medications after the deterioration of their pulmonary function rather than from the start.

COVID-19 is a pandemic of the 21st century that recorded 234 809 103 confirmed cases and more than 4 800 375 deaths. Many studies report the effect of COVID-19 in the overall population; nevertheless, there is information scarceness related to pharmacological management and pregnancy and fetal outcomes during the epidemic. Pregnancy is a state of change in immune physiology and anatomy modulation in preference to immune suppression. ⋯ But the efficacy of these drugs is questionable. There is no adequate literature to demonstrate the safety of these drugs in pregnant and lactating women. Hence, well-conducted studies that assess the safety of anti-COVID-19 medications and vaccines in pregnancy and lactating women are needed.

Efficacy evaluation of Chinese herbal medicine, VGH-BPH1, for patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, and crossover study.
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) can affect quality of life and cause various complications. Previous studies have suggested that Chinese herbal medicine can alleviate symptoms in patients with BPH. This study aimed to investigate whether the Chinese herbal medicine prescription VGH-BPH1 can alleviate BPH symptoms when used as an add-on treatment. ⋯ Although VGH-BPH1 treatment did not outperform the placebo in terms of improving BPH symptoms, it resulted in improvement in several quality of life indicators when relative to the placebo. Future research using a larger sample size with appropriate amendments to the protocol should be conducted to further investigate the effects of VGH-BPH1.
