Multimorbidity and polypharmacy increase in the aging population and are accompanied by the use of potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs) and adverse drug events (ADEs). This study developed a rapid assessment tool to investigate PIM use among patients in long-term care wards. ⋯ PIM use is a key factor causing ADEs among older adults. Therefore, comprehensive assessment of PIM use is necessary. This study designed a rapid assessment tool to simultaneously integrate and evaluate medications. Future studies may investigate the effectiveness of the proposed assessment tool.

The aim of this study was to analyze the risk factors for hemorrhagic complications in patients who underwent robotic-assisted partial nephrectomy. ⋯ Patients who undergo robotic-assisted partial nephrectomy with a warm ischemic time >25 minutes are significantly more likely to have hemorrhagic complications and should hence receive careful perioperative follow-up.

Macrosomia, defined as a birth weight of ≥4000 g, is associated with a high risk of birth injury. Fetal growth is highly correlated with maternal conditions, and several maternal factors are associated with neonatal birth size. The current study aimed to assess maternal factors related to fetal macrosomia in a Taiwanese population. ⋯ Gestational diabetes mellitus, 6mGWG, and maternal BMI are significantly correlated with neonatal macrosomia in full-term singleton births. Further, neonatal macrosomia is an important cause of maternal and neonatal morbidity. Hence, pregnant women should undergo maternal counseling for weight management before and during pregnancy, and the appropriate delivery method should be identified to prevent perinatal adverse events.

The aim of this study was to culture fungi from the nasal discharge of patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) using both a traditional and Ponikau et al's method, and subsequently compare the culture results between CRS with nasal polyps (CRSwNPs) and without nasal polyps (CRSsNPs), and between eosinophilic and noneosinophilic CRS. ⋯ Our results showed that the mycology of CRS was different between CRSwNPs and CRSsNPs.
