Vaccination against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is crucial for preventing and minimizing illness. Myocarditis and pericarditis after messenger RNA (mRNA) COVID-19 vaccination in adolescents and young adult males have been reported. Most of the studies in this area rely on retrospective symptom reporting, especially for adolescents experiencing myocarditis as a potential side effect. However, prospective postvaccination echocardiographic evaluation is rare. ⋯ Although adolescents vaccinated with the second dose of BNT vaccine commonly experienced transient postvaccination discomfort, the serial echocardiographic examinations did not reveal any significant deterioration of cardiac function within 28 days. Further studies are required to investigate the incidence of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) mRNA vaccination-associated myocarditis in adolescents and the related mechanisms.

To determine the feasibility and safety of ultrasound-guided totally implantable venous access port (TIVAP) implantation via the posterior approach of the internal jugular vein (IJV). ⋯ Ultrasound-guided TIVAP implantation via the posterior approach of the IJV is feasible, safe, and effective, with a low rate of intraoperative and postoperative complications. Not only was the curvature of the catheter device smooth, but patients were satisfied with the comfort and cosmetic appearance. Additionally, we could reduce the possible complications of pinching and kinking of the catheter by using this approach. Therefore, further large-sample, prospective, and randomized controlled trials are warranted.

Conventional epidurography (CE) is thought to have insufficient usefulness on percutaneous epidural adhesiolysis (PEA). We aimed to evaluate the association between the outcome of PEA and cone-beam computed tomography-reformatted epidurography (CBCT-RE). ⋯ CBCT-RE with identifying contrast distribution patterns is useful for predicting outcome of PEA.

Substance abuse is a considerable medical issue worldwide, yet current surveillance systems in Taiwan offer limited insights into the clinical characteristics and outcomes of substance abuse patients. This study aimed to delineate the epidemiology of emergency department visits related to substance abuse at a hospital in Taiwan and to identify factors predictive of severe complications or mortality. ⋯ In Taiwan, benzodiazepines emerged as the most prevalent substance of abuse among emergency department visitors, and a significant proportion of these patients experienced severe outcomes. Continuous monitoring of severe outcome predictors is essential for enhanced understanding and management.

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is frequently utilized as a complementary therapy for breast cancer patients. TCM primarily involves the use of Chinese herbal products (CHPs), which consist of single or multiherb formulas with diverse therapeutic effects documented in medical classics. The study aims to investigate the association between medication possession ratios to CHPs within 2-year post breast cancer diagnosis and 5-year survival, to explore the potential beneficial class effect of TCM. ⋯ Short-term use of TCM (ie, MPR to CHPs 1~19%) within 2-year post breast cancer diagnosis present positive association with survival outcome. Tian-wang-bu-xin-dan and Suan-zao-ren-tang may have benefits to 5-year survival, but their causality still need further investigation.
