[The principles of shared decision-making and the contribution of self-help institutions].
Patient participation in decision-making has become increasingly important. Shared decision-making (SDM) describes a procedure for the physician-patient encounter and can be enhanced by training physicians, decision support tools and training patients. Results of a research consortium on SDM funded by the ministry of health showed positive effects of shared decision-making for both the patient and the physician. ⋯ Thus, self-help institutions already contribute to the enhancement of patient competencies for shared decision-making. A closer cooperation between research and self-help institutions can enhance the implementation of shared decision-making. Possible steps are the development of closer collaborations, exchange of experiences and the common development and implementation of decision support tools.

[Application-oriented and quality management in the prevention of illness and promotion of health. Structural model for the planning and implementation of preventative and health-promoting programs].
In industrial nations, and other countries, lifestyle diseases, for example adiposity, are on the increase. To counter this many prevention and health promotion programs have been set up; as a rule these programs are well meant, but are lacking in theoretical conception and are rarely accompanied by a sustainable design. ⋯ This combination is rounded off by the addition of an extended public health action cycle. The new model's aim is twofold, first to offer the users a systematic approach with clearly structured planning and secondly to clarify the quality assurance steps required.

Review[Physicians' responsibility: doctor-patient relationship].
The physician-patient relationship is of fundamental importance not only for individual patients but for the health care system in general and thus also for bioethical reflections. We give an overview on current research and analyses regarding the physician-patient relationship. ⋯ These forms of relationships seem to be promising for several reasons, but might not fit all situations, and suitable for all preferences of patients and physicians in the same way. We conclude with a summary of the current debate and point out some of its shortcomings.
