Critical care explorations
-
To develop and implement a protocol to increase patient mobility in three adult ICUs using an interdisciplinary approach and existing resources.
-
To understand from the perspective of patients who did, and did not attend ICU recovery programs, what were the most important components of successful programs and how should they be organized.
-
The feasibility and hemodynamic effects of isoflurane sedation in cardiogenic shock in the presence of venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation treatment are currently unknown.
-
To determine whether the use of flumazenil reverses hypoactive delirium and increases delirium-free days in critically ill patients who were exposed to benzodiazepine therapy during the ICU admission.

Detecting instantaneous stroke volume change in response to altered cardiac preload is the physiologic foundation for determining preload responsiveness. ⋯ In healthy volunteers, both carotid velocity time integral and carotid corrected flow time measured by a wireless Doppler patch were useful to track changes in stroke volume induced by a preload-modifying maneuver with high sensitivity and specificity.
