Repeated intentional foreign body ingestion (RIFBI) in patients with Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD) is a common clinical presentation to the emergency department. The relationship between repeated foreign body ingestion and a co-existent personality disorder diagnosis is complex, making it challenging to manage. ⋯ Our observations following the model of care are presented herein. We encourage other health networks to adopt this model of care for managing RIBFI in EUPD.

Impact of an educational intervention utilising a three-dimensional-printed model for ultrasound-guided intra-articular injections of the dislocated shoulder.
Intra-articular injection of local anaesthetic provides safe and effective analgesia for patients with shoulder dislocation. We designed a three-dimensional-printed ultrasound model of the shoulder to educate ED clinicians on use of this technique. We aimed to evaluate the impact of a 1-h training session using this model on participants' knowledge, skills and clinical practice. ⋯ A 1-h training session using a three-dimensional-printed model improved participants objective structured clinical examination performance in ultrasound-guided injection of the shoulder joint. Although there was minimal change in the practice of participating clinicians, overall use of the procedure increased.

Trends in reported GHB-related presentations to Sydney emergency departments between 2012 and 2021.
In overdose, gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) and its precursors can cause decreased levels of consciousness, coma and death. Here, we aim to describe reported exposure to GHB at four EDs in Sydney, New South Wales (NSW), Australia. ⋯ Increases in recorded absolute number and severity of GHB-related presentations to Sydney EDs are a major public health concern. There may also be shifts in the demographics of those with GHB-related presentations. Renewed efforts are required to understand the drivers of these increases to optimally target harm reduction approaches.

Evaluation of a pathway to address take own leave events for First Nations peoples presenting for emergency care: The Deadly RED project.
The 'Deadly RED' project primarily aimed to improve culturally competent care to reduce the number of First Nations patients presenting to a Queensland ED who 'Take own leave' (TOL). The secondary aim was to evaluate the implementation project. ⋯ The Deadly RED evaluation revealed significant discrepancies in the reported data points of TOL and the 'story' of the First Nations persons experience of appropriate and completed care. Staff awareness and cultural capability improved significantly, and yarning allowed knowledge translation and improvements in communication which contributed to a better healthcare experience for First Nations patients attending our ED.
