Ten Days to Implementation of 3D-Printed Masks for a Level-I Orthopaedic Trauma Practice During the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has substantially impacted the global supply chain of personal protective equipment (PPE) for hospitals. At the time of our project, local and national recommendations for PPE were based on supply rather than provider or patient safety, and we intended to give providers a better option than scarves and cloth masks. ⋯ We printed 50 reusable face masks with replaceable filter inserts and distributed them to physicians, physician assistants, and residents in a midwestern level-I trauma center. Our work highlights the innovative solutions that are being explored on a local level to confront the nationwide PPE shortage in the United States.

Orthopaedic Guidelines for the COVID-19 Post-Outbreak Period: Experience from Wuhan, People's Republic of China.
Currently, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis has rapidly spread worldwide. As the earliest outbreak area of the pandemic, Wuhan, People's Republic of China, is gradually recovering to its normal state under the effective control of government authorities. Outpatient services in major hospitals are now being restored. ⋯ We have developed and proposed applicable guidelines to fill this knowledge gap, including the necessary protective strategies for medical personnel in orthopaedic outpatient and inpatient wards as well as during surgery. We also have provided mental health recommendations for health-care workers. To the best of our knowledge, these guidelines are the first of their kind for orthopaedic surgeons who are slowly reestablishing medical activity following the pandemic.

Tranexamic Acid Reduces the Rate of Periprosthetic Joint Infection After Aseptic Revision Arthroplasty.
Revision total joint arthroplasty (TJA) has a higher rate of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) compared with primary TJA, possibly as the result of increased allogeneic blood transfusion. Tranexamic acid (TXA) is gaining popularity in revision TJA to minimize blood loss and the need for transfusion; however, its effect on PJI reduction has yet to be investigated. The hypothesis of this study was that the administration of TXA during revision arthroplasty is protective against subsequent PJI. ⋯ Therapeutic Level III. Comparative StudyBiomechanical Comparison of Different Fixation Techniques for Typical Acetabular Fractures in the Elderly: The Role of Special Quadrilateral Surface Buttress Plates.
Anterior column-posterior hemitransverse fractures are prevalent in the elderly and are often associated with quadrilateral surface (QLS) comminution. Several special QLS buttress plates have been introduced, but evidence of their comparability with traditional fixation devices is lacking. This biomechanical study aimed to compare special QLS buttress plates with traditional fixation devices. ⋯ Special QLS buttress plates may be an alternative fixation method for anterior column-posterior hemitransverse acetabular fractures in the elderly, especially when a less invasive anterior intrapelvic approach is selected.
