Ultrasonography can be useful to perform a lumbar neuraxial block. It aids in understanding the anatomy of the lumbar spine before the procedure. ⋯ Ultrasonography can facilitate lumbar neuraxial block in difficult cases, such as the elderly, obese patients, and patients with anatomical abnormality of the lumbar spine. This review elucidates the basics of spinal ultrasonography for lumbar neuraxial block and the current evidence regarding ultrasound-guided neuraxial block in adults.

Analysis of perioperative cardiac arrest in a rural hospital in Korea.
Perioperative cardiac arrest has been studied in many countries but few related studies have been conducted in Korea. Previous studies were not applicable to rural hospitals due to differences in the demographics between the regions. In the present study, the incidence, mortality, and related factors of perioperative cardiac arrest in a hospital in Youngdong province were analyzed and compared with previous research. ⋯ The incidence and mortality of perioperative cardiac arrest in our hospital were higher than those in a recent study in Seoul, demonstrating a regional gap in Korea.

Effects of 10-min prewarming on core body temperature during gynecologic laparoscopic surgery under general anesthesia: a randomized controlled trial.
Previous research has shown a beneficial effect of prewarming for preventing inadvertent perioperative hypothermia. However, there are few studies of the effects of a short prewarming period, especially in gynecologic laparoscopic surgery. ⋯ Forced air warming for 10 min before induction on the operating table combined with intraoperative warming was an effective method to prevent hypothermia in patients undergoing gynecologic laparoscopic surgery.

Case ReportsTransversus abdominis plane block as a sole anesthetic technique for evacuation of rectus abdominis muscle hematoma - A case report.
Transversus abdominis plane (TAP) blocks have been used for analgesia in various abdominal surgeries. However, a TAP block as the sole anesthetic method for surgery has rarely been reported. ⋯ The evacuation of an abdominal wall hematoma in a breastfeeding patient was successfully performed under a bilateral TAP block.

Current use of neuromuscular blocking agents and antagonists in Korea: a 2018 survey.
Neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBAs) and neuromuscular monitoring in anesthetic management are integral for endotracheal intubation, better visualization of the surgical field, and prevention of residual neuromuscular blockade and pulmonary complications. Sugammadex is a drug that reduces risk of residual neuromuscular blockade, with more rapid recovery compared to anticholinesterase. The purpose of this study was to investigate current usage status of NMBAs and antagonist with neuromuscular monitoring, among anesthesiologists in Korea. ⋯ This survey indicates several minor problems associated with the use of antagonists and neuromuscular monitoring. However, most anesthesiologists appear to have appropriate information regarding the usage of NMBAs and sugammadex.
