The purpose of this research is to study the content of support provided by nurses who were employed in a regional intractable disease consultation project. ⋯ The distinctive features of regional intractable disease consultations conducted by nurses are support from the combined viewpoints of medical care and everyday life, specialized support based on the features of the patient's disease, and coordination with close support persons. In education for nurses who are to be employed in this field, it is necessary to develop competence in responding to the specialized support needs of intractable diseases and coordination of support persons.

To evaluate the effects of an educational program on discharge planning for staff nurses that was developed to improve their knowledge, attitudes, and practice as well as the organizational climate regarding discharge planning. ⋯ This education program was successful in strengthening knowledge of various systems related to discharge planning, improving the nurses' attitudes towards discharge planning, and impacting the climate of entire units; therefore, it was found to be effective.

To assess the frequency at which various chronic pain care (CPC) approaches were used while managing older residents of the Health Service Facilities for the Elderly Requiring Care (HSFERC) in Japan and to assess the factors related to nurses and care workers that influence this care. ⋯ In order to provide effective and active CPC, ongoing education about pain and cooperation between nurses and care workers to manage residents' pain are highly recommended.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Supporting stress management for women undergoing the early stages of fertility treatment: a cluster-randomized controlled trial.
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of a support program for the stress management of women undergoing fertility treatment to reduce stress related to infertility and treatment. ⋯ Positive effects of the support program were observed on two subscales of the SF-36 in the subgroup that did not use ovulation-enhancing agents.

The aim of this study was to elucidate the components of end-of-life care provided to older adults with dementia who live in group homes (GHs) in Japan. ⋯ The combination of the four components seems to be a unique characteristic of end-of-life care in GHs in Japan. These findings may be used to establish a framework for end-of-life care at GHs.
