Establishing a hospital based fracture liaison service to prevent secondary insufficiency fractures.
In the aging population worldwide, osteoporosis is a relatively common condition and a major cause of long-term morbidity. Initial fragility fractures can lead to subsequent fractures. After a vertebral fracture, the risk of any another fracture increases 200% and that of a subsequent hip fracture increases 300%. ⋯ The FLS can be adapted to any model of care including academic health systems. FLS provides a holistic approach to identify patients as well as to provide evidence-based interventions to prevent subsequent fractures. The long term goal is that internationally FLS will result in in decreased fracture-related morbidity, mortality and overall health care expenditure.

Comparison of hook plate with versus without double-tunnel coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction for repair of acute acromioclavicular joint dislocations: A prospective randomized controlled clinical trial.
This study was designed to compare the surgical outcomes of a hook plate with double-tunnel coracoclavicular (CC) ligament reconstruction by conjoined tendon transfer versus single hook plate surgery for the repair of acute type of Rockwood type III and V acromioclavicular (AC) joint dislocations. ⋯ The overall surgical effect of the use of a hook plate combined with double-tunnel CC ligament reconstruction is superior to single hook plate surgery for the repair of acute Rockwood type III and V AC joint dislocations.

Prognostic value of CpG island methylator phenotype among hepatocellular carcinoma patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
CpG island methylator phenotype (CIMP), characterized by multiple genes are concurrently methylated, has been reported to be associated with the prognosis of colorectal cancer. However, current studies have not explored the relationship between CIMP status with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) clinicopathological features. ⋯ CIMP is independently associated with significantly worse prognosis in HCC patients. Examination of CIMP status may be useful for identifying patients who are at higher risk for disease progression.

Ultrasonography (US) is a safe and noninvasive imaging modality that is gaining popularity in different medical and surgical fields. Its introduction in musculoskeletal and sports medicine has taken this advanced subspecialty to a higher level. ⋯ Standard diagnostic sonography doesn't have any known harmful effects on humans. In this article we will discuss the role of ultrasound in sports medicine, highlighting the diagnostic and interventional indications, uses and limitations.
