Some dementia patients can self-report pain although the reports are not valid in severe dementia. Observational scales have been developed for pain assessment in these patients. This study aimed to assess the psychometric properties of the Persian version of Pain Assessment Checklist for Seniors with Limited Ability to Communicate-II (PACSLAC-II). ⋯ PACSLAC-II Persian version is a valid and reliable scale for pain assessment in older adults with dementia.

Early detection of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia is important to promptly start appropriate intervention. However, it is difficult to examine a patient using long and thorough cognitive tests in a general clinical setting. In this study, we aimed to investigate the diagnostic validity of the Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination - III (ACE-III), Mini-ACE (M-ACE), Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), Hasegawa Dementia Scale-Revised (HDS-R), and Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) to identify MCI and dementia. ⋯ The ACE-III is a useful cognitive instrument to detect MCI. For distinguishing dementia patients from non-dementia patients, the ACE-III and M-ACE are superior to the MoCA, HDS-R, and MMSE.

Randomized Controlled Trial
Randomized controlled study on the effectiveness of animal-assisted therapy on depression, anxiety, and illness perception in institutionalized elderly.
The aim of this study was to verify dog-assisted therapy's effectiveness on depression and anxiety in institutionalized elderly. Patients' illness perception was examined to identify core beliefs regarding mood, personal control, and illness coherence because they can affect treatment compliance. Subjective perception of pain, social interaction, and setting-bound observable variables were also studied. ⋯ Dog-assisted therapy has proved to be effective in reducing symptoms of depression in institutionalized elderly. The increase in verbal interactions with the handlers throughout the study suggests the dog acts as a facilitator of social interaction, eliciting positive emotional responses. Dog-assisted therapy shows promising results in the perception of illness timeline and treatment control, indicating potential enhancement of the sense of treatment-related empowerment. However, further study is required.

Benzodiazepine use is a risk factor for the development of delirium in adult intensive care unit (ICU) patients. Suvorexant is an alternative to benzodiazepines to induce sleep, but the incidence of delirium in critically ill patients is unknown. We undertook this retrospective study to investigate the incidence of delirium in patients who receive suvorexant in the ICU. ⋯ Suvorexant was associated with decreased odds of transitioning to delirium in critically ill patients. The use of suvorexant may lower the incidence of delirium in ICU patients. Future prospective studies are warranted.

Comparative Study
Comparing the neuropsychological profiles of mild dementia with Lewy bodies and mild Alzheimer's disease.
The present study was conducted to detect neuropsychological differences and to identify discriminators between mild dementia with L ewy bodies (DLB ) and mild A lzheimer's disease (AD ). ⋯ Different patterns of cognitive impairment facilitate the differentiation of mild DLB from mild AD . For patients with mild dementia, better performance on the M emory and E xecutive S creening's 5-min delayed recall test suggests that the diagnosis is more likely DLB than AD .
