Pregnancy affects women's sexual function. However, few reports have addressed this phenomenon. ⋯ Results demonstrated that biopsychosocial and cultural factors affected Female Sexual Function Index (FSFIT) scores throughout pregnancy.

A new oral contraceptive containing the natural estrogen estradiol and a 19-nortestosterone derivate dienogest (DNG) in a four-phasic 28-day regimen may be used by women. ⋯ Reduced hormone-free interval is a new concept in low-dose OC regimens. Moreover, the E2V/DNG multiphasic extended regimen has been found to positively modify the sexuality of users.

Little is known about the sexual lives and development of medical students because of relatively small sample sizes and, in particular, low response rates in research. Enhancing medical students' awareness and understanding of sexual behavior is imperative, as gaps in knowledge might impede effective sexual health consultations in their later professional practice. ⋯ These data provide insight into the sexuality of medical students. The results of this study reliably clarify previous findings and form a solid basis for further research.

A valid and reliable self-administered scale to measure multidimensional aspects of female sexual function is needed in Japan, as sexual dysfunction is quite common in Japanese women. ⋯ The FSFI-J is a valid and reliable instrument to measure multidimensional aspects of sexual function in healthy Japanese women who are in partnered relationships.
