The right ventricular myocardial infarction (RVMI) has traditionally been mainly related to inferior wall ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). This study assessed the RVMI electrocardiographic (ECG-RVMI) signs in relationship to ECG-based STEMI localization and to the infarct related artery in patients treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI). ⋯ ECG signs of RVMI during acute STEMI are not uncommon. RCA was the infarction-related artery in only one half of these patients. Anterior wall STEMI and the LAD were associated with a significant proportion of ECG-RVMI cases.

Risk stratification in acute pulmonary embolism (PE) is crucial for identification of patients with poor prognosis. We aimed to investigate the ECG alterations of right bundle branch block (RBBB) and SIQIII-type patterns for risk stratification in acute PE. ⋯ RBBB and SIQIII-type patterns were both associated with RV overload and cardiac injury. RBBB and SIQIII-type patterns were connected with 3.9-fold and 5.7-fold elevated risk of RVD, respectively.

The relation between oxidative stress biomarkers and atrial fibrillation after pulmonary veins isolation.
The current paradigm claims a link between oxidative stress and atrial fibrillation. The aim of our research was to study a relation between the percentage of time spent in atrial fibrillation (AF burden) and concentrations of oxidative stress biomarkers, before and after pulmonary veins isolation (PVI). ⋯ Our study showed AGEs and TBARS to be potential predictors for AF burden after the PVI. We suppose that the more oxidative stress after the PVI is provoked, the more fibrotic tissue is produced. That means a better electrical isolation of pulmonary veins and consequently a lower AF burden.

Brugada phenocopies (BrP) are clinical entities characterized by ECG patterns that are identical to true Brugada syndrome (BrS), but are elicited by various clinical circumstances. A recent study demonstrated that the patterns of BrP and BrS are indistinguishable under the naked eye, thereby validating the concept that the patterns are identical. ⋯ New ECG criteria presented relatively low sensitivity and specificity, positive and negative predictive values to discriminate between BrS and BrP ECG patterns, providing further evidence that the two patterns are identical.

Prolongation of the corrected QT interval (QTc) can lead to torsades de pointes. This study is designed to determine the validity of the continuous QTc (cQTc) measurement in critically ill patients. ⋯ cQTc measurement in critically ill patients with a QRS duration shorter than 120 ms shows an acceptable accuracy to be used in routine care.
