A novel educational tool, Computer Enhanced Visual Learning (CEVL), has been used to improve resident performance of routine orchiopexy. Our objective was to assess the effect of a CEVL teaching module on the diagnostic accuracy of medical trainees in grading neonatal hydronephrosis on ultrasound using the Society for Fetal Urology (SFU) grading system. ⋯ Exposure to a computer-based learning module based on the CEVL platform improved urology residents' and medical students' correct assignment of SFU hydronephrosis grading to newborn renal ultrasounds.

To assess our study design and to obtain preliminary data for a dose-effect study on levobupivacaine for caudal analgesia in patients undergoing hypospadias repair. ⋯ Both concentrations of levobupivacaine provided excellent analgesia throughout surgery. The postoperative analgesia with both doses of levobupivacaine was found to be significantly longer lasting than previously reported. The study design, with a tight and extensive observation scheme, proved to be feasible, but given the surprisingly long-lasting analgesia, the observation period needs to be extended in future studies.

To review the impact of major pediatric renal trauma and its management on long-term function and morphology of the injured kidney. ⋯ The outcome of our management of pediatric major renal trauma was favorable overall. Longer follow up is needed with regard to renal function and development of hypertension.

Conservative treatment of phimosis with fluticasone proprionate 0.05%: a clinical study in 1185 boys.
Circumcision has been the traditional method of choice in the treatment of boys with phimosis. Recently, several published studies worldwide have focused their interest on more conservative approaches in management of this condition. These studies advocate the use of topical steroids in the phimotic foreskin. We aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of a medium potency corticosteroid in boys with different types of prepuce retractabilty. ⋯ Our results show that fluticasone proprionate 0.05%, a mild potent corticosteroid, is effective and safe in the treatment of boys with different types of phimosis.

Appendix interposition has been described as an option for surgical reconstruction of partial and total ureteral defects both in children and adults. However, to our knowledge, appendix interposition for a total left ureteral reconstruction has never been described. ⋯ Total ureteral reconstruction with cecal appendix is a feasible technique in young children. Surveillance for late operative complications is required, since this is the first case of total left ureteral reconstruction with appendix to connect the renal pelvis of a native kidney to the urinary bladder.
