Ultrasound-guided puncture of the femoral artery for total percutaneous aortic aneurysm repair.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of ultrasound-guided femoral artery access for total percutaneous endovascular repair of abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysms. ⋯ Ultrasound-guided puncture of the common femoral artery for percutaneous closure of the access site has a high technical success rate and a very low complication rate. The addition of ultrasound guidance decreases the difficulty of the procedure and helps to avoid some of its complications.

ReviewDual-energy CT revisited with multidetector CT: review of principles and clinical applications.
Although dual-energy CT (DECT) was first conceived in the 1970s, it was not widely used for CT indications. Recently, the simultaneous acquisition of volumetric dual-energy data has been introduced using multidetector CT (MDCT) with two X-ray tubes and rapid kVp switching (gemstone spectral imaging). Two major advantages of DECT are material decomposition by acquiring two image series with different kVp and the elimination of misregistration artifacts. ⋯ Iodine map images can quantify iodine uptake, and this approach may be more effective than obtaining non-contrast and post-contrast images for the diagnosis of a solid mass. Thus, computer-aided detection may be used more effectively in CT applications. DECT is a promising technique with potential clinical applications.

Case ReportsAcute abdomen caused by a small bowel perforation due to a clinically unsuspected fish bone.
We report the case of a 78-year-old woman with a three-day history of abdominal pain and vomiting. An abdominal plain film showed a distended small bowel loop and no signs of free intra-abdominal gas. ⋯ A laparotomy revealed a jejunal perforation and an omental granuloma containing a fish bone. Accidentally ingested foreign bodies should always be suspected in cases of acute abdomen, and ultrasonography remains a firstline examination tool for preoperative diagnoses of unsuspected foreign bodies and their complications.

The value of diffusion-weighted MRI for prostate cancer detection and localization.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of prebiopsy T2-weighted imaging (T2WI), quantitative diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), and the combination of these magnetic resonance (MR) techniques (T2WI+DWI) in the detection and localization of peripheral zone prostate cancer. ⋯ Prebiopsy DWI is valuable in detecting, localizing, and grading prostate cancer within the peripheral zone, and the lowest ADC values can indicate the regions to be biopsied.

Foreign body ingestion is a common problem in children, but it is also seen among adults. Most foreign bodies pass through the gastrointestinal tract without causing complications. Perforation of the gut by a foreign body, followed by migration of the foreign body to the liver is quite rare. ⋯ Two weeks later, computed tomography revealed that the needle was completely buried into the right lobe of the liver. Ultrasonographic examination successfully showed the extracapsular displacement of the needle. Eventually, laparoscopic removal of the needle was easily performed.
