Comparative StudyComparative study of 18F-FDG PET/CT and CT angiography in detection of large vessel vasculitis.
Compare 18F-FDG PET/CT and CTangio in the diagnosis of extracraneal large vessel involvement in patients with suspicion of large vessel vasculitis (LVV). ⋯ The results show the greater potential of 18F-FDG PET/CT for the detection and extension of LVV. Therefore, 18F-FDG PET/CT should be exploited to the maximum and consider as the first line imaging technique in the extracranial diagnosis of LVV and its possible association with polymyalgia rheumatica. The addition of CTangio could be more indicated in patients with Takayasu arteritis and in long-standing and/or severe vasculitis since it increases the accuracy in the detection of possible vascular complications.

Comparative Study68Ga-DOTATOC PET/CT in the localization of metastatic extra-adrenal paraganglioma and pheochromocytoma compared with 18F-DOPA PET/CT.
18F-Fluoro-L-dihydroxyphenylalanine (18F-DOPA) PET offers high sensitivity and specificity in the imaging of non-malignant extra-adrenal paraganglioma (PGL) and pheochromocytoma (PHEO) but lower sensitivity in metastatic disease. These tumours are of neuroendocrine origin and can be detected by 68Ga-DOTA-Tyr3-octreotide (68Ga-DOTA-TOC) PET. Therefore, we compared 68Ga-DOTA-TOC and 18F-DOPA as radiolabels for PET/CT imaging for the diagnosis of metastatic extra-adrenal PGL and PHEO. Combined cross-sectional imaging was the reference standard. ⋯ 68Ga-DOTA-TOC PET offers the highest detection rate in metastatic extra-adrenal PGL and PHEO compared to 18F-DOPA PET and even to diagnostic CT, particularly in bone lesions. Combined functional/anatomical imaging (68Ga-DOTA-TOC PET/CT) enables exact tumour extension to be detected in these rare tumour entities, especially in the case of unclear anatomical correlation.

Efficacy of early imaging with 68Ga-PSMA-I&T in the discrimination of pelvic lesions in prostate cancer patients.
68Ga-PSMA-uptake shows accumulation in the malignant lesions of prostate cancer patients as early as 5min p.i. Studies indicate the value of adding an early image of the pelvis to the imaging protocol of 68Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT scan showed contradictory results. In this study we planned to assess the significance of an additional early imaging in 68Ga-PSMA-I&T PET/CT imaging in prostate cancer patients. ⋯ Our study is the first in the literature to evaluate the impact of adding an early static pelvic image to the 68Ga-PSMA-I&T scan, in the detection rate of the lesions. Although there was no marked discordance between the 2sets of images, the addition of an early image to the imaging protocol of 68Ga-PSMA-I&T scan would increase the efficacy of detection of malignant lesions in the pelvis, which might show rapid clearance and has the risk of being masked by the urinary system activity.

Amyloid PET in neurodegenerative diseases with dementia.
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative condition characterized by progressive cognitive decline and memory loss, and is the most common form of dementia. Amyloid plaques with neurofibrillary tangles are a neuropathological hallmark of AD that produces synaptic dysfunction and culminates later in neuronal loss. Amyloid PET is a useful, available and non-invasive technique that provides in vivo information about the cortical amyloid burden. ⋯ Recently specific recommendations have been created as a consensus statement on the appropriate use of the imaging biomarkers, including amyloid PET: early-onset cognitive impairment/dementia, atypical forms of AD, mild cognitive impairment with early age of onset, and to differentiate between AD and other neurodegenerative diseases that occur with dementia. Amyloid PET is also contributing to the development of new therapies for AD, as well as in research studies for the study of other neurodegenerative diseases that occur with dementia where the deposition of Aβ amyloid is involved in its pathogenesis. In this paper, we review some general concepts and study the use of amyloid PET in depth and its relationship with neurodegenerative diseases and other diagnostic techniques.

Multicenter Study Clinical TrialPredictive and prognostic potential of volume-based metabolic variables obtained by a baseline 18F-FDG PET/CT in breast cancer with neoadjuvant chemotherapy indication.
To investigate the usefulness of metabolic variables using 18F-FDG PET/CT in the prediction of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NC) response and the prognosis in locally advanced breast cancer (LABC). ⋯ Volume-based metabolic variables obtained with 18F-FDG PET/CT, unlike SUV based variables, were good predictors of both neoadjuvant chemotherapy response and prognosis.
