Demand for donor hearts and lungs exceeds their supply. Extended Criteria Donor (ECD) organs are used to help meet this demand, but their impact on heart-lung transplantation outcomes is poorly characterized. ⋯ Using ECD hearts and/or lungs for heart-lung transplantation is not associated with increased mortality and is a safe strategy for increasing donor organ supply in this complex patient population.

The authors examined the relationship between Weight-adjusted Waist Index (WWI) and all-cause and cardiovascular mortality among adults in the US. ⋯ Elevated WWI levels were associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular mortality and all-cause mortality independently.

This study aimed to evaluate the expression levels of miR-99b and miR-135b in peritoneal carcinoma and liver metastases associated with Colorectal Cancer (CRC), assess their association with the intracellular signaling pathway proteins Kirsten Rat Sarcoma Virus (KRAS) and Akt, and investigate their effects on survival. ⋯ While the expression of miR-99b was highest in the primary tumor, its decrease in liver metastasis and peritoneal carcinomatosis suggests that miR-99b has a protective effect against liver metastasis and peritoneal carcinomatosis. However, the detection of miR-135b expression was highest in peritoneal carcinomatosis and liver metastasis compared with that in the colorectal cancer tissues suggesting that it facilitates peritoneal carcinomatosis and liver metastasis. Furthermore, miR-99b, KRAS mutations, and Akt are risk factors for the overall survival of colorectal cancer.

The aim of this study was to study the curative effect and the relative mechanism of modified photodynamic therapy combined with Taohong Siwu Decoction in the treatment of hyperplastic scar after severe burn, in order to provide a stable, safe and satisfactory scheme for scar repair. ⋯ Modified photodynamic therapy combined with Taohong Siwu Decoction shows remarkable efficacy in patients with hyperplastic scars after severe burns. It can improve the color, thickness, vascular distribution, and softness of the scar, and reduce the level of cytokines related to tissue repair. At the same time, it can improve patients' satisfaction with the aesthetic appearance and reduce the recurrence rate, providing a new comprehensive therapy that is safer and more effective, simple and quick, and easy to promote in the clinic.

Immunotherapy has been proven to improve the prognosis of patients with advanced malignancy but has shown limited efficacy in patients with Colorectal Cancer (CRC). Increasing evidence suggests that butyrate, a bacterial metabolite, enhances the efficacy of cancer therapies by modulating immune responses. Here, the effect and the mechanism of butyrate on anti-PD-L1 therapy were investigated in CRC. ⋯ Butyrate strengthens the immune response to CRC cells by suppressing PD-L1 expression via acetylation of STAT1.
