Heart Failure (HF) has been one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Though its latent mechanism and therapeutic manipulation are updated and developed ceaselessly, there remain great gaps in the cognition of heart failure. High morbidity and readmission rates among HF patients are waiting to be addressed. ⋯ This article centers on the changes and counteraction of cardiac energy metabolism in the failing heart. Therefore, targeting impaired energy provision is of great potential in the treatment of HF. And shifting the objective from traditional neurohormones to improving the cellular environment is expected to further optimize the management of HF.

Elderly patients are more susceptible to Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) and are more likely to develop it in severe forms, (e.g., Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome [ARDS]). Prone positioning is a treatment strategy for severe ARDS; however, its response in the elderly population remains poorly understood. The main objective was to evaluate the predictive response and mortality of elderly patients exposed to prone positioning due to ARDS-COVID-19. ⋯ The present study suggests the oxygenation response to prone positioning in elderly patients with severe COVID-19-ARDS correlates with the SAPS III score. Furthermore, the male sex is a risk predictor of mortality.

Prediction of intensive care admission and hospital mortality in COVID-19 patients using demographics and baseline laboratory data.
Optimized allocation of medical resources to patients with COVID-19 has been a critical concern since the onset of the pandemic. ⋯ The authors developed and validated prognostic scores that use readily available clinical and laboratory information to predict ICU admission and mortality in COVID-19. These scores can become valuable tools to support clinical decisions and improve the allocation of limited health resources.

The authors aimed to develop a Machine-Learning (ML) algorithm that can predict positive blood culture in the neonatal intensive care unit, using complete blood count and C-reactive protein values. ⋯ Complete blood count parameters and C-reactive protein levels cannot be used in ML models to predict bacteremia in newborns.

Stroke in children and adolescents: Analysis of electrophysiological and behavioral assessment findings of auditory processing.
This study aimed to analyze the auditory processing behavior of children and adolescents diagnosed with stroke and compare it with that of typically developing individuals. ⋯ This study showed that children and adolescents with stroke performed worse in electrophysiological and behavioral tests of auditory processing assessed using the auditory evoked potentials. These data reinforce the hypothesis that stroke-related lesions compromise the neural mechanisms underlying auditory processing.
