Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyClinical evaluation of a resorbable wrap-around implant as an alternative to nerve repair: a prospective, assessor-blinded, randomised clinical study of sensory, motor and functional recovery after peripheral nerve repair.
Peripheral nerve injures are common and often result in impaired functional recovery. The majority of injuries involve the arm and/or the hand. The traditional treatment for peripheral nerve injuries is repair by using microsurgical techniques, either by primary nerve suture or nerve graft, but research to find more successful methods that could improve recovery is ongoing. ⋯ The majority of the methods in the test battery showed no significant differences between the treatment groups, but one should consider that the study involved a limited number of patients and a high variability was reported for the evaluating techniques. However, sensory recovery, according to the British Medical Research Council score and parts of the manual muscle test, suggested that treating with PHB may be advantageous as compared to epineural suturing. This, however, should be confirmed by large-scale efficacy studies.

ReviewCutaneous mucormycosis: report of five cases and review of the literature.
Mucormycosis is a highly aggressive fungal infection caused by Zygomycetes, from the order of Mucorales. This infection commonly presents an aggressive and rapid course and typically affects immunocompromised patients. Mucormycosis can manifest in different clinical patterns and locations. ⋯ Tissue examination by histopathology and culture confirms the fungal infection. Standard treatment includes antifungal therapies associated with surgical debridement. We report five different cases of cutaneous mucormycosis treated in our institution and the management carried out in each case.

Comparative StudyPerioperative thromboelastography analysis during suction-assisted lipectomy: a prospective cohort study.
The purpose of this study was to prospectively investigate coagulation during suction-assisted lipoplasty (SAL) and to compare it to other plastic surgery where no SAL was used, with the aid of a computerised thromboelastograph coagulation analyser (TEG). ⋯ TEG analysis demonstrates that SAL patients have decreased initial clotting time, decreased time to full clot formation, increased pro-coagulability state, and increased clot rigidity. The clot lysis time was not different between the studied groups.

Outcomes of vacuum-assisted closure for the treatment of wounds in a paediatric population: case series of 58 patients.
This retrospective case series describes our experiences and outcomes using the vacuum-assisted closure (VAC) Therapy System for the management of difficult acute and chronic wounds in paediatric patients. ⋯ The results demonstrate that VAC therapy may be a viable, safe and effective method of managing this difficult-to-treat population.
