Measuring satisfaction with appearance: Validation of the FACE-Q scales for double-eyelid blepharoplasty with minor incision in young Asians- retrospective study of 200 cases.
Double eye-lid surgery is one of the most popular performed aesthetic procedures in young Asians. Reliable measurement of patient reported outcomes is crucial for facial aesthetics. The FACE-Q is a new patient-reported outcome tool (PRO) composed of numerous independently functioning scales and checklists designed to measure outcomes. Here we described FACE-Q scales for double eye-lid surgery with minor incision in young Asians. ⋯ Minimally invasive procedure is a reliable tool for correcting disfigurement in double-eyelid blepharoplasty. However, this method is not suitable for those cases whose upper eyelids are featured by relaxation. Excessive amount of skin must be removed. Patients who responded in this study were extremely satisfied with their decision to undergo double-eyelid surgery and the outcomes and quality of life following the procedure.

Studies have suggested that contact between opposing mucosal surfaces in the nasal wall and cavity can be a target of the surgical treatment of migraines. Unfortunately, not enough is known about the role of nasal pathology in the pathogenesis of this condition. The co-existence of further rhinological disorders can be an impediment to defining the cause and effect of anatomical variants. The authors compared the MRI scans of migraine- and non-migraine patients (MPs and NMPs, respectively) to determine the prevalence of such mucosal contact points in order to extrapolate whether there is a significant association with migraines. ⋯ Contact points with the nasal mucosa are highly prevalent in both MPs and NMPs. Although a contact point does not cause a migraine in the absence of the disease, the concomitant presence of migraine and contact points can trigger an attack, and therefore, it is necessary to differentiate or exclude a rhinological disorder in these patients.

Microsurgery simulation training system and set up: An essential system to complement every training programme.
Microsurgical techniques are essential in plastic surgery; however, inconsistent training practices, acquiring these skills can be difficult. To address this, we designed a standardised laboratory-based microsurgical training programme, which allows trainees to develop their dexterity, visuospatial ability, operative flow and judgement as separate components. ⋯ This validated programme is a safe, cost-effective and flexible method of allowing trainees to develop microsurgical skills in a non-pressurized environment. In addition, the objectified skills allow trainers to assess the trainees' level of proficiency before operating on patients.

Multicenter StudyOrthoplastic surgical collaboration is required to optimise the treatment of severe limb injuries: A multi-centre, prospective cohort study.
Open fractures are severe, complex, limb-threatening and high-energy injuries, often involving lesions of both bone and soft tissues. Traditionally, treatment has been piecemeal by orthopaedic and plastic surgeons. This study aimed to prospectively investigate whether combining orthopaedic and plastic surgery in treating these injuries is more effective than the conventional orthopaedic care. ⋯ Of these, 70% were treated with an orthoplastic approach, whereas 30% were treated by an orthopaedic team. All outcome measures were statistically improved by the orthoplastic approach. A coordinated, combined pathway to both the bony and the soft tissue components of open tibial fractures through orthoplastic surgery can be successfully delivered with attention to important timelines to achieve better patient outcomes in different socio-economic settings.
