High resolution ultrasonography in the diagnosis of the carpal tunnel syndrome.
Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a neuropathy caused by compression of the median nerve in the carpal tunnel. Our purpose was to evaluate the role of high-resolution ultrasonography (US), performed with a 10-13 MHz probe, in the detection of morphovolumetric changes of the median nerve to confirm the clinical diagnosis. ⋯ Our study confirms that quantitative ultrasonographic assessment is a useful support in confirming the clinical diagnosis of CTS.

Endovascular treatment of benign superior vena cava syndrome: venographic patterns and implications for treatment.
We report our experience with the percutaneous treatment of superior vena cava syndromes of benign etiology. ⋯ Percutaneous treatment is a valuable alternative to surgery as it is able to restore haemodynamic parameters and resolve the clinical picture, ensuring longer functionality to arteriovenous fistulae and an improved quality of life.

Comparative StudyScreening US for blunt abdominal trauma: a retrospective study.
To assess the accuracy of screening US in patients with blunt abdominal trauma first admitted in the trauma centre of our general hospital. ⋯ Its satisfactory accuracy for major trauma suggests that US could be employed not only to screen cases for emergency laparotomy but also as an alternative to screening CT. However, since major traumatic injuries generally carry an imperative indication for CT, especially as regards neurological, thoracic and skeletal evaluation, US has the not secondary task of performing a prompt preliminary examination using a simplified technique in the emergency room simultaneously with resuscitation.

Comparative StudyTreatment of painful compression vertebral fractures with vertebroplasty: results and complications.
The aim of this paper is to assess the effectiveness and safety of percutaneous vertebroplasty in patients with focal pain caused by compression vertebral body fractures. ⋯ Our experience confirms the effectiveness of vertebroplasty in the treatment of pain caused by vertebral fractures. If the indications are respected the improvement of symptoms is often immediate, such as the return of mobility, and patient satisfaction with surgery is higher. The use of appropriate guiding systems limits the number of complications.
