Comparative Study[Magnetic resonance imaging of hepatic focal lesions: dynamic contrastographic evaluation with gadolinium versus reticulo-endothelial hepato-specific contrast media].
To compare the potentials of AMI-25 (Endoren) to those of Gadolinium with the dynamic contrast-enhanced technique in the differential diagnosis of focal liver lesions. ⋯ AMI-25 can help also in characterizing primary lesions with an atypical signal pattern after contrast agent administration thanks to its intrinsic capability of accumulating in benign lesions. However it remains difficult to characterize well differentiated hepatocarcinomas and adenomas. Finally, AMI-25 improves MR capabilities in detecting secondary lesions and possible satellite nodules.

Aim of our work was to evaluate the diagnostic role and potentials of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in the study of groin pain in athletes and in the differential diagnosis among the pathological conditions that cause this syndrome. ⋯ In our experience, only MRI can permit an accurate and early diagnosis of the different sport-related pubic conditions. MRI is also a valuable tool in monitoring the alterations with reference to their response to treatment, which may also help bring the athletes back to their activities.

[Application of spiral computerized tomography in the study of traumatic lesions of the thoracic aorta].
Acute thoracic aortic injuries account for up to 10-20% of fatalities in high-speed deceleration road accidents and have an estimated immediate fatality rate of 80-90%. Untreated survivors to acute trauma (10-20%) have a dismal prognosis: 30% of them die within 6 hours, 40-50% die within 24 hours, and 90% within 4 months. We investigated the diagnostic accuracy of Helical Computed Tomography (Helical CT) in acute traumatic injuries of the thoracic aorta, and the role of this technique in the diagnostic management of trauma patients with a strong suspicion of aortic rupture. ⋯ In our experience Helical CT had much higher diagnostic sensitivity and specificity than plain chest radiography. In agreement with larger published series, in our small one the diagnostic accuracy of Helical CT was 100% in the evaluation of traumatic aortic ruptures. Moreover, Helical CT is faster and less invasive than conventional aortography, which makes this diagnostic modality increasingly used and markedly improves the management of the serious trauma patient. The more widespread use of this diagnostic tool has permitted to standardize the technique and now Helical CT can be used not only as a screening modality for patients that undergo digital aortography, but also as a reliable diagnostic method for surgical planning.

[Relationship between exercise capacity and left ventricular function at rest in patients with heart insufficiency: radionuclide continuous monitoring of left ventricular function].
To evaluate the relationship of systolic and diastolic function at rest to exercise capacity. ⋯ The results of the present study suggest that exercise capacity is related to left ventricular function at rest and that rest diastolic function might be a determinant of left ventricular function during exercise in patients with heart failure.

Comparative Study[Hepatic and hepatocarcinoma magnetic resonance: comparison of the results obtained with paramagnetic (gadolinium) and superparamagnetic (iron oxide particles) contrast media].
To compare prospectively dynamic gadolinium (Gd)-enhanced with superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO)-enhanced MRI for the detection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). ⋯ In our study the combined use of SPIO-enhanced T2-weighted TSE and T1-T2*-weighted GRE sequences showed higher sensitivity than gadolinium-enhanced GRE dynamic imaging (97.7% versus 75%). These results are at least partly related to our study conditions, that is: 1) MRI was performed with a 1T system, 2) both axial and sagittal SPIO-enhanced imaging were performed with respiratory triggered T2-weighted TSE and T1-T2*-weighted GRE, 3) there was a low freaquency of severe cirrhosis.
