[Computed tomography in injuries to the respiratory system in children. The correlation with adults].
Diagnostic imaging in emergency rooms may be inadequate and delayed, which makes chest traumas in children more severe and difficult to treat. We carried out a retrospective study on adults and children who had survived major chest traumas involving the respiratory tract to assess the differences between the two age groups and the role of emergency CT. ⋯ Traumatic injuries are more severe in pediatric patients due to their build and to biomechanical, clinical and management factors. Spiral CT should be considered the examination of choice to be performed in the emergency department equipped also for pediatric re-animation.

[Pancreatic fractures: the role of CT and the indications for endoscopic retrograde pancreatography].
To assess the role and the diagnostic yield of CT and of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) in the study of emergency pancreatic injuries from blunt abdominal trauma. ⋯ Both CT and ERCP are necessary tools to diagnose pancreatic fractures: the former because it provides indispensable panoramic findings and the latter because it is the only method showing ductal involvement. Therefore, both techniques should be used for accurate surgical planning, which is a crucial step for the prognosis of these injuries. Cost-effectiveness and safe execution are well balanced.

[Magnetic resonance angiography of the vessels of the neck: the optimization of a dynamic technic during the rapid infusion of a paramagnetic contrast medium].
A new noninvasive technique, dynamic Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) during rapid infusion of paramagnetic contrast medium, has been recently developed for the study of neck vessels. This study was carried out to optimize technical parameters. ⋯ Gadolinium enhanced dynamic MRA ensures panoramic and high resolution angiographic-like depiction of the neck vessels, providing rapid and excellent definition of vascular morphology. Thus dynamic MRA appears to be a substantial alternative to conventional MRA and conventional angiography.

[The percutaneous placement of intra-arterial catheters with "reservoirs" for subcutaneous infusion. The technic and preliminary results].
We report our personal technique and the preliminary results of percutaneous implantation of intraarterial catheters connected to a subcutaneous infusion reservoir (Port-a-cath) for the regional chemotherapy of hepatic and extrahepatic tumors. January, 1996, to February, 1997 fifty patients underwent the procedure: 44 had liver cancers (42 had metastases and 2 hepatocellular carcinomas), 4 pelvic tumors (2 bladder carcinomas, one uterine cancer and one vaginal cancer), one had inoperable pancreatic tumor and one breast cancer. ⋯ In conclusion, the percutaneous placement of intraarterial catheters for continuous regional chemotherapy is a feasible, safe and tolerable procedure and can represent an alternative to the surgical implantation of catheters in the hepatic artery for the treatment of liver metastases from colorectal cancer. The technique opens new therapeutic possibilities for the local treatment of extrahepatic tumors (such as gynecologic, vesical, pancreatic and breast cancers), even though its clinical efficacy must be assessed in selected trials.
