Hematopoietic stem-cell transplant (HSCT) is associated with many risk factors for life-threatening complications. Post-transplant critical illness often requires admission to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). ⋯ Total body irradiation and renal involvement are associated with higher risk for PICU admissions after HSCT in pediatric patients, while septic shock upon admission and post-admission respiratory failure are associated with mortality.

Benign convulsions occur in infants during the course of mild gastroenteritis. It is now recognized as a distinct clinical entity in many countries. However, its occurrence in China has not yet been widely recognized by Chinese pediatricians. ⋯ Benign convulsions with mild gastroenteritis are not rare in China, and rotavirus infection is a major cause.

Successful surgical repair of d-transposition of the great arteries in a separated conjoined twin.
Conjoined twins are very rare examples of congenital malformations. In 75% of thoracoomphalopagus conjoined twins, the intracardiac anatomy determines outcome and long-term survival. ⋯ Careful planning, skillful surgical separation and cardiac surgery by a combined medical and surgical team is the key to save the twins in such a rare case.

This study examines hospital charges and length of stay (LOS) associated with septicemia during hospitalization for leukemia treatment among children aged ≤18 years. ⋯ Septicemia is associated with adverse outcomes among children hospitalized for leukemia treatment.
