There is growing evidence that vitamin D deficiency plays a role in the development and the course of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). However, the correlation between vitamin D deficiency and clinical parameters in IBD is still not completely understood. ⋯ Vitamin D deficiency is common in patients with IBD. However, certain clinical situations lead to significantly lower vitamin D levels and may therefore require close monitoring for vitamin D deficiency.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
Comparison of 10-day levofloxacin bismuth-based quadruple therapy and levofloxacin-based triple therapy for Helicobacter pylori.
This was a prospective study aiming to investigate whether levofloxacin plus bismuth-based quadruple therapy was more effective than levofloxacin-based triple therapy after failed first-line eradication therapies for Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection. ⋯ Adding bismuth subcitrate to levofloxacin-based triple therapy was not more effective than not doing so, but no further side effects were noted. Both eradication therapies were equally safe and patients had the same tolerance to both regimens. Resistance rate to levofloxacin may be important when choosing second-line therapy.

Meta Analysis
Diagnostic performance of confocal laser endomicroscopy for atrophy and gastric intestinal metaplasia: A meta-analysis.
To systematically evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of confocal laser endomicroscopy (CLE) for gastric atrophy (GA) and gastric intestinal metaplasia (GIM). ⋯ CLE is of great value and may be considered an alternative modality for the early diagnosis of GA and GIM.

Alginate antacid (Gaviscon DA) chewable tablets reduce esophageal acid exposure in Chinese patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease and heartburn symptoms.
To assess the efficacy of Gaviscon Double Action (DA) alginate antacid chewable tablets for reducing esophageal acid exposure in Chinese patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). ⋯ DA alginate antacid was statistically significantly superior to placebo in reducing post-prandial acid exposure without serious clinically relevant health risks. These findings suggest DA alginate antacid tablets are appropriate for treating acid reflux in Chinese GERD patients with heartburn symptoms.

Vonoprazan is a potassium-competitive acid blocker, a new type of acid-suppressing drug, and has recently become available for peptic ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication. Its efficacy for H. pylori eradication has been reported. However, the evidence for its efficacy and feasibility remains limited. We aimed to compare the feasibility, effectiveness and safety of vonoprazan-based triple therapy with conventional proton pump inhibitor (PPI)-based triple therapy in multicenter clinical practice. ⋯ Vonoprazan-based triple therapy is feasible, and has a higher rate for H. pylori eradication than conventional PPI as a first-line regimen.
