Factors influencing refusing of flu vaccination among pregnant women in Italy: Healthcare workers' role.
Pregnant women are at increased risk of influenza complications. Influenza vaccine provides them a substantial protection. ⋯ Healthcare workers have a key role in assisting women during the gestational period, so their active involvement in vaccination promotion is essential. It is necessary to improve health care workers' knowledge about vaccine relevance in protecting pregnancy and their communication skills to properly inform pregnant women.

Observational StudyRecovery of pulmonary functions, exercise capacity, and quality of life after pulmonary rehabilitation in survivors of ARDS due to severe influenza A (H1N1) pneumonitis.
Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) due to severe influenza A H1N1 pneumonitis would result in impaired pulmonary functions and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) after hospital discharge. ⋯ The impaired pulmonary functions and exercise capacity in the survivors of H1N1-ARDS improved soon at 3 months after hospital discharge. Their quality of life had keeping improved at 6 months even though there was no further improvement of their pulmonary functions and exercise capacity.

Comparative StudyComparison of outpatient medically attended and community-level influenza-like illness-New York City, 2013-2015.
Surveillance of influenza-like illness (ILI) in the United States is primarily conducted through medical settings despite a significant burden of non-medically attended ILI. ⋯ Outpatient and community-based surveillance in the one found similar timing and relative distribution of respiratory viruses, but community surveillance in a single neighborhood may not fully capture the variations in ILI etiology that occur more broadly.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialThe efficacy of medical masks and respirators against respiratory infection in healthcare workers.
We aimed to examine the efficacy of medical masks and respirators in protecting against respiratory infections using pooled data from two homogenous randomised control clinical trials (RCTs). ⋯ The results suggest that the classification of infections into droplet versus airborne transmission is an oversimplification. Most guidelines recommend masks for infections spread by droplets. N95 respirators, as "airborne precautions," provide superior protection for droplet-transmitted infections. To ensure the occupational health and safety of healthcare worker, the superiority of respirators in preventing respiratory infections should be reflected in infection control guidelines.

Effect of low-to-moderate-dose corticosteroids on mortality of hospitalized adolescents and adults with influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 viral pneumonia.
The effect of corticosteroids on influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 viral pneumonia patients remains controversial, and the impact of dosage has never been studied. ⋯ Low-to-moderate-dose corticosteroids might reduce mortality of influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 viral pneumonia patients with PaO2 /FiO2 <300 mm Hg. Mild patients with PaO2 /FiO2 ≥300 mm Hg could not benefit from corticosteroid therapy.
