Observational Study
[COVID-19 in subjects at risk participating in clinical trials during the pandemic in Argentina].
There is little information on the presence of COVID-19 in clinical trial participants. The objective of the study was to evaluate the cumulative infection rate for SARS-CoV-2 in this population. Additionally, we investigated the risk, lethality, and mortality from COVID-19. ⋯ The rate of COVID-19 in adult subjects participating in clinical trials was below the figures for the Argentine population of similar age. The fatality rate was above the population figures, and it is explained by the high risk of the population.

Thoracic disc herniation is a rare pathology compared to the rest of the herniated discs. Due to their difficult access to the area of compromise and proximity to the spinal cord they represent a real challenge for the spine surgeon. ⋯ It was done a minimally invasive transthoracic decompression and intersomatic arthrodesis without instrumentation. The patient presented good neurological recovery without any serious sequelae.

Brown tumors represent the terminal stage of bone remodeling processes in primary hyperparathyroidism. Currently they are rare, and typically affect long bones, pelvis and ribs. Brown tumors may be not included in the initial differential diagnosis of bone disease, especially when they are present in atypical localizations. ⋯ Incisional biopsy of oral tumors resulted in giant cell and primary hyperparathyroidism was confirmed by laboratory tests. After parathyroidectomy, histology confirmed adenoma in both cases. Although this type of clinical presentation has almost disappeared in the recent decades, brown tumors should be considered in the differential diagnosis of bone oral masses.

Hamman's syndrome, or spontaneous pneumomediastinum, is the presence of air in the mediastinum without a history of previous pulmonary pathology, chest trauma or iatrogenesis. It has been described as a rare complication in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia. It is postulated that an increase in airway pressure associated with diffuse alveolar damage caused by the virus produces an air leak into the mediastinum. ⋯ He evolved favorably with bronchodilator treatment and temporary oxygen therapy. Hamman's syndrome is a rare cause of respiratory failure progression in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia. Its recognition is crucial to implement the appropriate treatment.
