Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, cases of COVID-19-associated pulmonary aspergillosis (CAPA) have been described. Possible risk factors for the development of this condition have been proposed, although evidence in Latin American populations is limited. The objectives were to identify risk factors for the development of CAPA and describe the characteristics of this infection. ⋯ A history of diabetes, smoking, coronary artery disease, and a Charlson score equal to or greater than 5 may increase the risk of developing CAPA.

Neurosarcoidosis as a rapidly progressive dementia associated with normal pressure hydrocephalus.
Neurosarcoidosis (NS) is a rare subtype of sarcoidosis with a poor prognosis and diverse clinical presentations that often poses a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. We describe the case of a 53-year-old male with an initial diagnosis of lingual sarcoidosis, who subsequently developed ataxia and rapidly progressive cognitive impairment. A lumbar puncture revealed hypoglycorrhachia, hyperproteinorrachia, lymphocytic pleocytosis, and elevated IL-6 levels (600 pg/ml). ⋯ This case underscores the importance of maintaining a high index of suspicion for NS in individuals with sarcoidosis and neurologic symptoms. In these cases, cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers such as IL-6 and CD4+/CD8+ ratio are essential to guide the diagnosis. Furthermore, it highlights that hydrocephalus is a rare complication and requires a multidisciplinary approach, including medical and neurosurgical treatment.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a global health problem. In the public sector of Bahía Blanca, CRC screening is opportunistic, through the request of fecal occult blood test (FOBT). The objective of this study is to describe access to CRC screening for the population with exclusive public coverage residing in the programmatic area 2 of the city between 2019 and 2021, and to identify the barriers and facilitators that determine it. ⋯ The identification of barriers and facilitators will allow the design of context-adapted strategies that will strengthen screening in the future.

Enteral nutrition through jejunostomy is a common practice in any general surgery service; it carries a low risk of complications and morbidity and mortality. We present the case of a patient with an immediate history of subtotal gastrectomy that began nutrition through jejunostomy and complicated with intestinal necrosis due to non-occlusive ischemia in the short period. The purpose of this work is to report on this complication, its pathophysiology and risk factors to take it into account and be able to take appropriate therapeutic action early.
