Carbapenemaseproducing bacteria are involved in infections and colonizations and associated with high morbidity and mortality. Their identification facilitates the design and implementation of interventions aimed at reducing the risk of infections and deaths. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of carbapenemase-producing microorganisms in the main public hospital in the city of Corrientes, Argentina, and to determine their susceptibility to antibiotics commonly used in clinical practice. ⋯ Among the microorganisms involved in infections (n = 56; 49%), most of those of the KPC type (n = 32; 57%) showed sensitivity only against amikacin (27/32; 84%), while most of those of the OXA-ACI type ( 24; 43%) showed significant sensitivity only against minocycline (17/24; 71%) and colistin (n = 19/24; 79%). This study demonstrated the presence of carbapenemase-producing microorganisms in all the investigated hospital units and a high frequency of resistance to antimicrobials commonly used in clinical practice. This information is relevant to adapt the therapeutic schemes and hygienic-sanitary measures to the local reality.

The humoral immune response associated with both SARSCoV-2 infection and vaccination with Sputnik V in health workers, was analyzed.. A study was carried out in 660 health workers vaccinated with 2 doses of Sputnik V at the Vélez Sarsfield hospital, in the city of Buenos Aires, from December 2020 to April 2021. The objectives were to quantify anti-S1 SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies in vaccinated individuals and to determine clinical and pathological factors associated with that response. ⋯ The antibody response was higher in the group with prior COVID-19 disease vs. the group with no previous infection (10 693 ± 846.22 AU / ml vs. 2495.8 ± 187.98 AU / ml, p < 0.0001 in t-test). In a subgroup of 21 participants with high titers of anti-S1 IgG antibodies and with no apparent previous COVID-19, 11 individuals were positive for antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid. It is concluded that most of the vaccinated health workers developed antibodies and that those who had the disease prior to vaccination had higher antibody titers than those who did not have the disease.

The objective of this study was to reveal how the COVID-19 pandemic process affected the number of visits to an emergency department of a highly complex hospital located in the Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires, to explore the characteristics and reasons for consultation. The monthly number of visits between January 2019 and December 2020 was analyzed. ⋯ The five most frequent reasons for consultation in 2020 were: fever (5.1%), odynophagia (4.7%), abdominal pain (2.6%), cough (1.8%) and headache (1.8%), probably all related to COVID-19. In conclusion, the number of emergency department visits decreased by half compared to the previous year.

Controversies still exist regarding the humoral response to the virus SARS-CoV-2 in convalescent patients and seroconversion in patients with autoimmune diseases. There are few reports on the clinical and evolution of COVID-19 in the latter group. The objective was to examine the clinical and evolutionary characteristics associated with COVID-19 and the percentage of seroconversion in people with rheumatic diseases. ⋯ The presence in serum of IgG immunoglobulin against SARS-CoV-2 protein S was determined in 23/53 patients (43.4%), with detectable levels in 15 (62.2%), and in the 23 without autoimmune connective tissue diseases who suffered from COVID-19, 12 had detectable antibodies. Death in this group of rheumatic diseases was low, similar to the general population. More than half had specific antibodies against the virus regardless of the medication used.

COVID-19 coronavirus disease is an often-severe illness caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The pandemic has demanded a great organization and redistribution of infrastructure and medical resources for the care of patients with cancer. The Gynecology service of the Oncology Hospital of the City of Buenos Aires is a monovalent center dependent on the City of Buenos Aires. ⋯ As of March 20, 2020, when decree 260/20 came into force, which established social, preventive and compulsory isolation, a new modality was started for the care and benefits of our hospital. In our Service of the Hospital de Oncología de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires we have developed recommendations for the management of gynecological tumors during the COVID-19. The guide we developed is based on up-to-date data and available resources and provides suggestions and tools for decision-making in order to reduce the morbidity and mortality of patients with gynecological cancer during the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).
