In recent years, drug repurposing (DR) has gained significant attention as a promising strategy for identifying new therapeutic uses of existing drugs. One potential candidate for DR in cancer treatment is sodium dichloroacetate (DCA), which has been shown to alter tumor metabolism and decrease apoptosis resistance in cancer cells. In this paper, we present a scoping review of the use of DCA for cancer treatment in adult patients, aiming to identify key research gaps in this area. ⋯ The most frequent adverse events in the evaluated studies were asthenia, reversible toxicity, and an increase in liver enzymes. Effectiveness was difficult to evaluate. We conclude that there is insufficient evidence to affirm that treatment with DCA in cancer patients is effective or is safe.

The guides for diagnosis and treatment prepared by scientific medical societies constitute a very useful tool for the professional practice of the specialty. Supported by an updated bibliography, they represent material of enormous value with recommendations from experts on the various topics of the specialty. This article attempts to determine if they could be designed as "Evidence - Based Clinical Practice Guidelines" (CPG BE), for which the stages in their development and the requirements that they reviewed. ⋯ The preparation of CPGs represents a complex process, which requires knowledge, experience and resources, both in time and money. Its robustness does not depend on who does it, but on how it is done. This implies the participation of technicians who provide the evaluation of the evidence using the GRADE method and the consideration of cost-effectiveness aspects.

The definition of quaternary prevention as the set of interventions that avoids or mitigates the consequences of unnecessary or excessive activity of medical interventionism and the health system. The definition of a new disease is a complex process that involves the identification, characterization and description of a medical condition that has not been previously recognized or documented. ⋯ Post-infectious syndromes, myalgia encephalomyelitis and fibromyalgia, are some of the diseases that have similarities with chronic COVID. This article presents an analysis relating the concepts of new disease and quaternary prevention with chronic COVID and other diseases described in the literature.

Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is a rare, chronic, inflammatory, and necrotic liver disease characterized by the presence of autoantibodies. Its etiology is unknown. ⋯ To date the evidence remains limited and different societies have issued suggestions and recommendations. For this reason, we believe it is relevant to carry out a bibliographic review on the subject, capturing in this document the important information for the understanding and management of this pathology.

The appearance of epidemiological events that threaten the health system marked the importance of responses that go beyond the dissemination of information and since the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government of the City of Buenos Aires (Argentina) proposed an epidemiological surveillance model in devices called Febrile Units (UF). At the Muñiz Hospital, this unit provided epidemiological surveillance strategies in the pandemic and the different epidemics and outbreaks, still continuing its operation today. The objective of this work is to evaluate the implementation of the Febril Unit as an epidemiological surveillance structure. ⋯ The implementation of an epidemiological surveillance system together with a multidisciplinary team is important for public policies. The health data collected, analyzed and interpreted makes it possible to plan actions and develop strategies in epidemiological surveillance. The challenge is to find a response where the public health and epidemiological surveillance processes are not separated.
