The appearance of epidemiological events that threaten the health system marked the importance of responses that go beyond the dissemination of information and since the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government of the City of Buenos Aires (Argentina) proposed an epidemiological surveillance model in devices called Febrile Units (UF). At the Muñiz Hospital, this unit provided epidemiological surveillance strategies in the pandemic and the different epidemics and outbreaks, still continuing its operation today. The objective of this work is to evaluate the implementation of the Febril Unit as an epidemiological surveillance structure. ⋯ The implementation of an epidemiological surveillance system together with a multidisciplinary team is important for public policies. The health data collected, analyzed and interpreted makes it possible to plan actions and develop strategies in epidemiological surveillance. The challenge is to find a response where the public health and epidemiological surveillance processes are not separated.

Stroke is the leading cause of disability and the third leading cause of mortality in our country. Argentina and the Region of the Americas are going through the worst epidemic outbreak of dengue on record with significant demand on the health system. Dengue could increase the risk of stroke and given the time-dependent nature of the management of this disease to reduce morbidity and mortality and the potential considerations to be taken into account in patients with dengue, we present a focused review of the literature with points of uncertainty and aspects to be considered in the stroke code considering the clinical characteristics and high demand of the health system caused by the dengue fever. A call is also made to generate evidence on the management of stroke in patients with dengue.

Reports of excess mortality during the COVID-19 pandemic in Argentina have been partial and fragmented so far. This study aimed to quantify excess deaths and explore their demographic, temporal, and geographic distribution during the period 2020-2022. Using data from 1 192 963 death records from vital statistics and population projections, expected mortality was estimated using regression models. ⋯ Significant heterogeneity was found among the different argentine provinces. The results indicate an uneven impact of the pandemic, with higher excess mortality rates in some regions and more vulnerable age groups. These patterns suggest the need for differentiated strategies of healthcare response and support to the most vulnerable populations in scenarios of new epidemics.

Effectiveness and safety of the recombinant herpes zoster vaccine in different population groups: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Varicella-zoster virus infections have increased globally, with complications such as postherpetic neuralgia and neurological sequelae. The recombinant vaccine against herpes zoster is proposed as a preventive strategy. This systematic review evaluates its effectiveness and safety in healthy and high-risk populations. ⋯ In high-risk populations, where the incidence of herpes zoster and its complications is higher, the vaccine demonstrated effectiveness in lowering the incidence of the disease, though not in that of postherpetic neuralgia. Conversely, in healthy populations, the impact of the vaccine was trivial. Individualized and informed recommendations are crucial when considering this vaccine.
