An increased incidence of tuberculosis (TB) in patients under anti-TNF-α therapy has been reported, but outcome compared with TB in the general population are unknown. ⋯ TB may still occur in those with negative testing, some of them probably representing new infections instead of reactivations. Three out of 25 patients had TB in spite of previously treated LTB, although, the outcome of TB was not worse than in the general population.

Achievement of deep remission during scheduled maintenance therapy with TNFα-blocking agents in IBD.
Deep remission, meaning clinical remission with mucosal healing (MH), with anti-tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) agents is a new target for therapy in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Our aim was to study how often patients on TNF-α blocking therapy actually achieve deep remission. ⋯ Reassuringly, half of the IBD patients on the TNFα-blocking maintenance therapy achieved deep remission. The majority of patients in deep remission also achieved histological remission.

Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are at increased risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE), but data on frequency, site of thrombosis and risk factors are limited. We sought to determine prevalence, incidence as well as location and clinical features of first VTE among IBD patients. ⋯ VTE is frequent in IBD patients. Most of them are unprovoked and occur in outpatients. DVT and PE are most common and unusual sites of thrombosis are rare.
