Comparative Study Clinical Trial[Tetracaine drops versus lidocaine gel for topical anaesthesia in cataract surgery].
in addition to intracameral anaesthesia, drop anaesthesia with tetracaine drops has been established for topical anaesthesia in cataract surgery. Anaesthesia with lidocaine gel is less established. We compared pain sensitivity of patients undergoing surgery with drop anaesthesia to patients who underwent surgery with gel anaesthesia. ⋯ Both gel anaesthesia and drop anaesthesia are suitable methods for cataract surgery under local anaesthesia. According to patients' assessment, drop anaesthesia with tetracaine is better suited for pain elimination.

[Post-traumatic endophthalmitis after penetrating injury in Vietnam: risk factors, microbiological aspect and visual outcome].
Post-traumatic endophthalmitis associated with penetrating injury represents a distinct kind of intraocular infection and is still a severe problem for diagnosis and treatment in developing countries. We report the incidence, microbiological presentation and visual outcome of post-traumatic endophthalmitis in South Vietnam. ⋯ Post-traumatic endophthalmitis is still a major problem in Vietnam. Delay in primary wound closure or inadequate antibiotic treatment worsen the prognosis profoundly. Comprehensive prophylactic antibiotic treatment at the time of injury repair is in dispensable. In risk eyes particular attention should be paid to prophylaxis and signs of infection. Further prospective studies are necessary to develop optimal and adequate diagnostic and treatment options in Vietnam.

Case Reports[Horner's syndrome in dissection of the carotid artery after chiropractic manipulation].
We report on a 37-year old patient with sudden onset of pain of the right scalp and an ipsilateral small pupil, presenting five weeks after chiropractic manipulation of the neck. ⋯ There appears to be a causal relationship between carotid artery dissection and the chiropractic manipulation of the cervical spine. Ophthalmological signs played the key role in detecting this complication.

Digital photography has many advantages over the conventional method. At present commercially available digital ophthalmological imaging systems utilise only a fraction of the advantages of this technique and some of them have fundamental conceptional problems. ⋯ Using standard software and hardware components an imaging system can be constructed featuring functions usually not available in commercial ones. Since the system is adaptable, recording of images with a wide variety of parameters, e.g., for measurements for scientific experiments, is possible.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial[Measurement of intraocular pressure using the Tono-Pen in comparison with Goldmann applanation tonometry - a clinical study in 100 eyes].
In clinical practice ophthalmologists often need a tonometer which is independent of a slit lamp. Such a hand-held device is the Tono-Pen. We compared the precision of two equal Tono-Pens with Goldmann applanation tonometry. ⋯ Measurement of IOP with the Tono-Pen is comparable to Goldmann applanation tonometry if an average of 3 measurements is used. The difference between two equal Tono-Pens indicates the need for improvement of the quality check during production.
