[No contamination of medical personnel by desflurane and nitrous oxide inhalation anesthetics during surgical interventions in ophthalmology].
Possible health hazards from chronical exposure to inhalational anesthetics cannot definitively be excluded. ⋯ Despite minor occupational exposure of the operating room staff during the operative procedures, inhalational anesthesia in ophthalmologic operative procedures can be considered safe from the standpoint of modern work place laws and health care regulations.

Severe open globe injuries are frequent emergencies in an ophthalmologic clinic and required immediate operation. The extent of these injuries is various depending on the mechanism of the injury and involvement of ocular tissue. In many cases a full visual rehabilitation can be achieved but in a lot of cases blindness results. To prevent such severe eye injuries it is important to judge the leading injury mechanisms. For this we collected our data about open globe injuries. ⋯ At least a third of all severe eye injuries would have been preventable. Concerning the non-preventable injuries accidents at home and in children were predominating. The rate of the open globe injuries was 2.32 in 100.000 people, which is about the same like in US-American studies. Most of the injuries happened at home because of carelessness and would have been avoidable. The rate of injuries at the working place is significantly higher than in the USA but there were significantly more gun-shot-injuries or offensive accidents abroad. The rate of accidents at home and in traffic were the same. We think that public campaigns and prevention strategies can help to reduce the potential risk of severe eye injuries.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial[Perioperative circulatory side effects of topical 5% phenylephrine for mydriasis].
To study the systemic effects of topically applied 5% phenylephrine. To investigate intraoperative injection of epinephrine in the anterior chamber as an alternative. ⋯ In normotonic or medically treated arterial hypertensive patients, preoperative mydriasis using 5% phenylephrine is safe--proceeding the way described above. Compression of the lacrimal drainage system can be performed by the patients effectively. Intraoperative intracameral epinephrine does not replace preoperative phenylephrine.

Case Reports[Serous detection of the neuroretina in Waldenström disease. A case report].
Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia is a monoclonal gammopathy producing pathologic IgM antibodies with increased blood viscosity, platelet dysfunction and retinal hemorrhages. As a complication a serous detachment of the macula is described. The pathogenesis of the serous detachment is still not fully understood. ⋯ FA- and especially ICG-angiographic findings can help to get more information about the pathogenetic mechanism of serous detachment in Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia. Besides toxic alteration of the retinal pigmentepithelium, oncotic and hydrostatic pressure, a pathologic communication between the optic disc, the subarachnoid space and the subretinal space is discussed.

A pyogenic granuloma developing after eye muscle surgery is a rare complication. It can impair aestethical results and ocular motility. ⋯ The rapid growth and appearance as well as the clinical examination may imitate another tumor necessitating surgical excision and histopathological study. Bare sclera-technique is a suitable method for plastic reconstruction.
