Time-driven activity-based costing was applied to analyze the nursing activity cost and efficiency of a medical unit. ⋯ These results indicate that the time-driven activity-based costing provides useful and more realistic information about the efficiency of unit operation compared to traditional activity-based costing. So time-driven activity-based costing is recommended as a performance evaluation framework for nursing departments based on cost management.

The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a hospice-palliative care performance measure which would cover more than just physical symptoms or quality of life. ⋯ The HPCOS demonstrated acceptable validity and reliability. It can be used to assess effectiveness of hospice-palliative care for terminal cancer patients in practice and research.

[Ventilator-associated pneumonia with circuit changes every 7 days versus every 14 days].
To determine whether the practice of not routinely changing ventilator circuits in patients who require prolonged mechanical ventilation is associated with ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). ⋯ Extending ventilator circuit change interval from 7 days to 14 days does not increase the risk for VAP.

The objectives of this study were to determine the prevalence, incidence, and risk factors for postoperative surgical site infections (SSIs) after craniotomy. ⋯ The results of this study show that patients are at high risk for infection when they have a low level of consciousness or their length hospital stay is long term. Nurses have to take an active and continuous approach to infection control to help with patients having these risk factors.

The study was done to identify turnover intention in new nurses according to characteristics of the nurses and other factors affecting turnover and to provide data to set up a strategy to reduce the turnover. ⋯ New nurse turnover intention can be reduced by mitigating the factors affecting this intention.
