We evaluated diffusional changes in normal-appearing white matter (NAWM) regions remote from multiple sclerosis (MS) plaques by using diffusional kurtosis imaging (DKI) to investigate the non-Gaussian behavior of water diffusion. ⋯ DKI may be a new sensitive indicator for detecting tissue damage in MS patients in addition to conventional diffusional evaluations, for example diffusion tensor imaging.

Postmortem vascular changes were quantitatively analyzed in the aorta and vena cava and compared with antemortem findings as a basis for distinguishing between normal postmortem changes and pathological changes. ⋯ In postmortem images, the aortic diameter decreased and changes in the size and shape of the SVC were noted. The IVC did not exhibit significant postmortem changes.

Adhesive small bowel obstruction (SBO) is a common cause of abdominal pain after surgery or peritonitis. The role of computed tomography (CT) in the evaluation of SBO has expanded. Diagnosis of adhesive SBO, however, remains challenging. ⋯ In patients with adhesive bands, SBO results from compression of the intestine caused by the band itself. Recent advances in spatial resolution using multidetector CT (MDCT) have enabled detailed assessment of the configuration of the SBO site. Presented in this pictorial essay are characteristic MDCT findings regarding the mechanism of the obstruction process of adhesive SBO.

Detection of liver metastasis: is diffusion-weighted imaging needed in Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced MR imaging for evaluation of colorectal liver metastases?
We compared diagnostic ability for detecting hepatic metastases between gadolinium ethoxy benzyl diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (Gd-EOB-DTPA)-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) on a 1.5-T system, and determined whether DWI is necessary in Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced MRI for diagnosing colorectal liver metastases. ⋯ Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced MRI yielded a better overall detection rate and higher sensitivity for detecting metastases compared with unenhanced MRI. Additional DWI may be able to reduce oversight of lesions in Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced 1.5-T MRI for detecting colorectal liver metastases.

Clinical role of radiography for thoracic spine fractures in daily practice in the MDCT era: a retrospective review of 255 trauma patients.
To retrospectively assess the diagnostic efficacy of radiography in detecting vertebral body fractures of the thoracic spine compared with MDCT, to assess the confounding factors reducing the diagnostic efficacy, and to investigate the outcomes of radiographically overlooked patients. ⋯ Radiography had low sensitivity but high specificity. In daily practice, primary use of MDCT is beneficial for patients with neurological deficit or upper extremity injuries or elderly patients.
