The purpose of our study was to evaluate the efficacy of computed-tomography (CT)-guided transthoracic needle biopsy (TNB) and fine needle aspiration (FNA) in diagnosing pulmonary infectious diseases. ⋯ CT-guided TNB and FNA proved to be effective as alternative methods if bronchoscopy failed to diagnose pulmonary infectious diseases, with acceptable complication rates.

Maple syrup urine disease: diffusion-weighted MRI findings during acute metabolic encephalopathic crisis.
Maple syrup urine disease (MSUD) is caused by a genetic defect of branched-chain amino acids, which include leucine, isoleucine and valine. We report diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) findings in a newborn child with MSUD who presented with acute metabolic encephalopathic crisis. ⋯ The presence of these findings was considered cytotoxic or intramyelinic edema evidenced by restricted water diffusion. In conclusion, our findings suggest that during the acute phase and early encephalopathic crisis stage of MSUD, DWI can demonstrate the involvement of myelinated WM in newborns.

We evaluated the relationships between pre-procedural radiological findings and short-term pain relief in patients with osteoporotic compression fractures after percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP). ⋯ A large intravertebral cleft was a favorable short-term outcome predictor in patients with osteoporotic compression fractures after PVP, while severe protrusion of the FVB causing lumbar spinal canal stenosis was not a favorable short-term outcome predictor of complete pain relief.

CT findings of spontaneous intraperitoneal rupture of the urinary bladder: two case reports.
We report two cases of spontaneous bladder rupture. Preoperative diagnosis was difficult and the correct diagnosis was made at surgery. Reviewing the initial abdominopelvic CT of our second patient, the bladder wall defect and blood attenuation near the bladder were observed. ⋯ Under urinary catheterization, ascites and free intraperitoneal air were identified in both patients. These findings were indistinguishable from those for bowel perforation, which was our preoperative diagnosis. Significant changes in ascites volume between pre and post urinary catheterization can be an indication of spontaneous bladder rupture.

To evaluate the role of hepatic asialoglycoprotein receptor analysis in the preoperative estimation of postoperative hepatic functional reserve. ⋯ Our 99mTc-GSA SPECT/CT fusion imaging method was clinically useful for evaluating regional hepatic function and for predicting postoperative hepatic functional reserve.
