Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare hematological disorder for which the utility of18F-FDG PET/CT is unclear. Our aim was to explore the metabolic features of LCH and the possible role of18F-FDG PET/CT in LCH evaluation. ⋯ 18F-FDG PET/CT seems to be useful for evaluating LCH when compared to conventional imaging, except in pulmonary cases. It can be used both for staging and restaging purposes.

Comparison of lesion enhancement between BB Cube and 3D-SPGR images for brain tumors with 1.5-T magnetic resonance imaging.
This study aimed to compare the detectability of neoplastic lesion enhancement after gadolinium-based contrast media injection in three-dimensional T1-weighted black blood Cube (3D-T1W BB Cube) and three-dimensional T1-weighted fast spoiled gradient-echo (3D-T1W fast SPGR) images obtained with 1.5-T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). ⋯ Contrast 3D-T1W BB Cube imaging appears more sensitive than 3D-T1W fast SPGR imaging for detecting neoplastic lesion enhancement in the clinical setting using a 1.5-T MRI scanner, particularly for lesions <5 mm in diameter.

To evaluate diffusional changes of the corticospinal tract (CST) in patients with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) by neurite orientation dispersion and density imaging (NODDI). ⋯ The NODDI can effectively evaluate the condition of neurites in the CST of iNPH patients, and the ODI could be clinically useful in the diagnosis of iNPH.

Present and future roles of FDG-PET/CT imaging in the management of malignant pleural mesothelioma.
Positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) integrated with 2-[(18)F]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose ((18)F-FDG) has emerged as a powerful tool for combined metabolic and anatomic evaluations in clinical oncologic imaging. This review discusses the utility of (18)F-FDG PET/CT as a tool to manage patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma. We discuss different stages of patient management in malignant pleural mesothelioma, including diagnosis, initial staging, therapy planning, early treatment response assessment, re-staging, and prognosis.

A strategy to optimize radiation exposure for non-contrast head CT: comparison with the Japanese diagnostic reference levels.
To describe how we performed a protocol review, analyzed data, identified opportunities to reduce radiation exposure, and then implemented a new imaging protocol for non-contrast adult head CT at our institution with reduced radiation exposure, using the Japanese diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) as the reference. ⋯ We report the successful implementation of a new protocol with reduced radiation exposure for non-contrast head CT examinations.
