ReviewHumerus shaft fracture complicated by radial nerve palsy: Is surgical exploration necessary?
Fractures of the humerus shaft often are complicated by radial nerve palsy. Controversy still exists in the treatment that includes clinical observation and eventually late surgical exploration or early surgical exploration. ⋯ However, advantages and disadvantages are associated with each of these algorithms. The aim of this study was to analyze the indications of each treatment options and facilitate the surgeon in choosing the conduct for each lesion, proposing our own algorithm.

Proposal of a therapeutic protocol for selected patients with patellofemoral knee osteoarthritis: arthroscopic lateral retinacular release followed by viscosupplementation.
Lateral retinacular release has been demonstrated to reduce articular patellofemoral pressures, while intra-articular injection of hyaluronic acid can improve the biological and rheological knee pathway. We evaluated whether treatment protocol consisting on combination of these two therapies can provide significant symptomatic improvement in patients with patellofemoral osteoarthritis (PFO) and patellar tilt. ⋯ Arthroscopic lateral retinacular release followed by viscosupplementation is an effective treatment protocol for PFO, simple and minimally invasive with respect to other therapeutic options.

Role of autologous platelet-rich plasma in treatment of long-bone nonunions: a prospective study.
Fracture union is a complex biological process, which depends upon several systemic and local factors. Disturbance of any of these factors may lead to nonunion of the fracture. These nonunions have a huge impact on quality of life as well as socioeconomical aspects. The platelets on activation release a number of growth factors and differentiation factors, which play important role in fracture healing. This study aimed to look for efficacy of platelet-rich plasma in the treatment of established fracture nonunions of long bones. ⋯ Platelet-rich plasma is a safe and effective treatment for the treatment of nonunions. More studies are needed to look into molecular mechanism of this fracture healing acceleration by platelet-rich plasma.

A study of 44 patients with subtrochanteric fractures treated using long nail and cerclage cables.
This study aims to demonstrate that the use of long cephalomedullary nail and cerclage cables represents a good strategy in order to reduce the high risk of nonunion of the most displaced subtrochanteric fractures. ⋯ Considering the anatomic reduction achieved in all patients and the clinical results, we can define the use of long cephalomedullary nail and cerclage cables as the most useful technique in the armamentarium of a trauma surgeon for the treatment of the subtrochanteric fractures.

Zumba fitness requires aerobic repetition exercises, involving the whole body including the spine. Our study is aimed at verifying whether this sport may cause low back pain. ⋯ We verified that Zumba is not responsible for low back pain. Furthermore, we revealed that Zumba can increase the normal functional activity of the spine. On the basis of this data, we can recommend the practice of this sport on a regular basis for the healthy population, without worrying about the risk of overloading the spine. Further studies are necessary to check whether the patients with chronic spine disease may practice Zumba.
