In this study, we aimed to assess the prognostic value of metabolic tumor volume (MTV) and total lesion glycolysis (TLG) measured on (18)F-FDG PET/CT in pancreatic cancer patients who underwent resection with curative intent. ⋯ MTV and TLG are independent prognostic factors for predicting RFS and OS in patients with pancreatic cancer. Thus, (18)F-FDG PET/CT can provide useful prognostic information for patients undergoing resection of pancreatic cancer with curative intent irrespective of neoadjuvant treatment.

(18)F-FDG PET/CT is effective in the assessment of therapy response. Changes in glucose uptake or tumor size are used as a measure. Tumor heterogeneity was found to be a promising predictive and prognostic factor. We investigated textural parameters for their predictive and prognostic capability in patients with rectal cancer using histopathology as the gold standard. In addition, a comparison to clinical outcome was performed. ⋯ Tumor heterogeneity assessed by the COV, being superior to the investigated conventional parameters, is an important predictive factor in patients with rectal cancer. Furthermore, it can provide prognostic information. Therefore, its application is an important step for personalized treatment of rectal cancer.

Chronic fatigue syndrome/myalgic encephalomyelitis (CFS/ME) is a disease characterized by chronic, profound, disabling, and unexplained fatigue. Although it is hypothesized that brain inflammation is involved in the pathophysiology of CFS/ME, there is no direct evidence of neuroinflammation in patients with CFS/ME. Activation of microglia or astrocytes is related to neuroinflammation. (11)C-(R)-(2-chlorophenyl)-N-methyl-N-(1-methylpropyl)-3-isoquinoline-carboxamide ((11)C-(R)-PK11195) is a ligand of PET for a translocator protein that is expressed by activated microglia or astrocytes. We used (11)C-(R)-PK11195 and PET to investigate the existence of neuroinflammation in CFS/ME patients. ⋯ Neuroinflammation is present in widespread brain areas in CFS/ME patients and was associated with the severity of neuropsychologic symptoms. Evaluation of neuroinflammation in CFS/ME patients may be essential for understanding the core pathophysiology and for developing objective diagnostic criteria and effective medical treatments.

PET/MR imaging in the detection and characterization of pulmonary lesions: technical and diagnostic evaluation in comparison to PET/CT.
Fully integrated PET/MR imaging holds great promise as a novel hybrid imaging modality in oncology and might offer advantages to PET/CT in many instances, especially because of the superior soft-tissue contrast of MR imaging, compared with CT. However, lung metastases are a frequent finding in oncologic patients, and for imaging of the lung CT is still the modality of choice. Thus, we prospectively evaluated differences in quality, detection rate, size, and radiotracer uptake of pulmonary lesions in (18)F-FDG PET/CT and PET/MR imaging. ⋯ PET image quality and detection rate of (18)F-FDG-positive lung lesions in PET/MR imaging is equivalent to PET/CT despite differences in attenuation-correction techniques. Additionally, a high linear correlation coefficient in the SUVs for the PET images from PET/CT and PET/MR imaging was found. The detection rate of lung lesions can be significantly improved by adding a diagnostic contrast-enhanced VIBE sequence to the PET/MR imaging protocol. However, the detection rate of small lung lesions is still inferior, compared with PET/CT with diagnostic CT of the chest.
