Clinical Trial Controlled Clinical Trial
Clinical testing of an optimized software solution for an automated, observer-independent evaluation of dopamine transporter SPECT studies.
A lack of standardized evaluation procedures for dopamine transporter (DAT) SPECT investigations impairs both intra- and interindividual comparisons as well as multicenter trials-for example, for assessment of disease progression or the response to various drug treatments. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate a novel automated method, which has been specifically developed for a standardized quantification of N-(3-fluoropropyl)-2beta-carbomethoxy-3beta-(4-iodophenyl)nortropane (123I-FP-CIT) SPECT studies. ⋯ In a large patient population, excellent agreement was observed between quantitative DAT results using a time-consuming, observer-dependent, conventional manual method and the objective, automated evaluation specifically developed for a standardized evaluation of 123I-FP-CIT SPECT studies. It is suggested that the novel automated technique may substantially facilitate both intra- and interindividual comparisons as well as multicenter trials.

18F-FDG PET and CT/MRI in oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma: a prospective study of 124 patients with histologic correlation.
Accurate evaluation of primary tumors and cervical lymph node status of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the oral cavity is important to treatment planning and prognosis prediction. In this prospective study, we evaluated the use of 18F-FDG PET, CT/MRI, and their visual correlation for the identification of primary tumors and cervical nodal metastases of SCC of the oral cavity with histologic correlation. ⋯ 18F-FDG PET is superior to CT/MRI in the detection of cervical status of oral cavity SCC. The sensitivity of 18F-FDG PET for the detection of cervical nodal metastasis on a level-by-level basis was significantly higher than that of CT/MRI, whereas their specificities appeared to be similar. Visual correlation of 18F-FDG PET and CT/MRI showed a trend of increased diagnostic accuracy over 18F-FDG PET alone but without a statistically significant difference, and its sensitivity was still not high enough to replace pathologic lymph node staging based on neck dissection.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Trial
Assessment of diastolic function using 16-frame 99mTc-sestamibi gated myocardial perfusion SPECT: normal values.
The purposes of this study were (a) to assess the feasibility of diastolic function (DFx) evaluation using standard 16-frame postexercise gated (99m)Tc-sestamibi myocardial perfusion SPECT (MPS), (b) to determine the relationship of the 2 common DFx parameters, peak filling rate (PFR) and time to peak filling (TTPF), to clinical and systolic function (SFx) variables in patients with normal myocardial perfusion and SFx, and (c) to derive and validate normal limits. ⋯ With a new algorithm in QGS, assessment of LV DFx is feasible using 16-frame gated MPS even without bad-beat rejection, resulting in normal limits similar to those reported with gated blood-pool studies. However, due to the dependency of PFR on SFx parameters, sex, HR, and age, TTPF appears to be a stable and more useful parameter with this approach. The clinical usefulness of these findings requires further study.

Meta Analysis
18F-FDG PET for evaluation of bone marrow infiltration in staging of lymphoma: a meta-analysis.
The ability of PET with (18)F-FDG to evaluate bone marrow infiltration in patients with lymphoma has been a matter of extensive investigation with controversial results. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate systematically, with a meta-analysis, the diagnostic performance of (18)F-FDG PET in this setting. ⋯ This meta-analysis showed that (18)F-FDG PET has good, but not excellent, concordance with the results of BMB for the detection of bone marrow infiltration in the staging of patients with lymphoma. (18)F-FDG PET may complement the results of BMB and its performance may vary according to the type of lymphoma.
