Minimally invasive versus open distal pancreatectomy for pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors: An analysis from the U.S. neuroendocrine tumor study group.
To determine short- and long-term oncologic outcomes after minimally invasive distal pancreatectomy (MIDP) with open distal pancreatectomy (ODP) for the treatment of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor (pNET). ⋯ Patients undergoing MIDP over ODP in the treatment of pNET had comparable oncologic surgical metrics, as well as similar long-term OS.

Percutaneous biliary interventions have established their role in the management of benign and malignant biliary disease. There are limited data comparing procedures performed by gastroenterologists and interventional radiologists in managing malignant biliary obstruction. Endoscopic procedures performed by gastroenterologists are not completely benign with reported complications ranging from 2% to 15%. It is important that gastroenterologists and interventional radiologists collaborate to form algorithms for management of malignant biliary obstruction which provide safe and efficacious care to these patients.

A nomogram for predicting recurrence after complete resection for thymic epithelial tumors based on the TNM classification: A multi-institutional retrospective analysis.
This study aimed to compare the predictive ability between the Masaoka-Koga (M-K) staging system and the 8th TNM staging system for the recurrence of thymic epithelial tumors (TETs). In addition, a nomogram was developed on the basis of the proposed TNM classification to predict individual recurrence rate. ⋯ A predictive model based on the 8th TNM stage was slightly better than that based on M-K stage with respect to recurrence after R0 of TETs. The proposed nomogram could be applied to estimate the individual recurrence rate and make decisions for proper surveillance.

Completion lymphadenectomy for a positive sentinel node biopsy in melanoma patients is not associated with a survival benefit.
Completion lymph node dissection (CLND) for sentinel lymph node (SLN) disease in melanoma patients is debated. We evaluated the impact of CLND on survival and assessed for predictors of nonsentinel node metastasis (positive CLND). ⋯ Performance of CLND provides prognostic information but is not associated with a survival benefit. Clinical variables can predict a positive CLND in patients who may be at high risk of recurrence.

Few guidelines exist for an opioid prescription after breast surgical oncology (BSO) procedures. We sought to characterize opioid prescribing and use patterns by surgery type. ⋯ Wide variation in opioid use by BSO procedure type was noted with substantial unused OME regardless ofprescribing preference. Evidence-based guidelines are needed to tailor analgesic prescriptions according to the need.
